I shoved the book into the smallest space I could find, behind my bed. I stacked other books that I never bothered to read, in front, making the perfect hiding space.
Jade is coming over tomorrow! I have to tell her about the book!
I finally get to sleep, pulling myself under the covers. I sigh in happiness, glancing outside the window. Bumping into a tree is a shadow.
" Ha!" I snort.
It turns towards me and I duck quickly, my eyes barely over the window sill.
Ah shit balls. This whole thing is going to happen all over again. Unless....
I snatch the book and flip through the pages landing on the perfect page. " Spell of block"
I chant a couple words staring at the shadow, whose looking around the fields. I feel a shock down my spine, my head starting to swirl.
Uh what's going on? Is this working? Please say it worked.
Suddenly the shadow freezes in it's place. It tries to walk forward, but keeps hitting something that's not there. Eventually it gives up, disintegrating into dust. I stare in shock. I look at my hands, shaking.
" What d-did I-I do?" I stutter. I shut the book.
It worked. It worked. IT WORKED! Oh my gosh it actually worked!! I can finally get Evelyn out!

-------------------------------------------

" No living way in hell that happened!" Jade screams, tugging me on the arm.
" Shh! Your going to get me in trouble!" I laugh.
I open the book flipping right to the page where I had my first spell.
" It felt so tingly and awesome!" I gushed, going into detail.
She listened intently, gasping at the slightest moment. We decided to test some of the spells out. We went through hours trying to perfect and test out spells. We tested ALL the weirdest objects we could find around my room, laughing our heads off, or gasping when it did something cool. Well mostly me. She's not a witch. She can't see anything on the book except for blank pages. It's a magical lock. Then her mom calls.
" HONEY COME HOME QUICK! You know I have a bad feeling about Joslyn and her family. There always so... weird. Ugh. Come home now! Supper is ready. Your food is getting cold. " Her mom retorts.
" Wait what did you say about me?" I blurt, standing up.
" Oh god I put it on speaker. I'll see you at home mother. We are talking about this when we get home." Jade quickly hangs up the phone, mouthing sorry to me. I mouth back just go home, and put on a fake smile as she leaves the room.
What did her mother say about me? That son of a butternut squash! She'll pay.
" Supper!" Mom calls, knocking on my door, snapping me out of my thoughts.
I open the door, ushering her in.
" I'm coming mom." I smile, shoving the book under the covers.
I put the book back before I leave for dinner. After dinner, I pull out the book, smelling the old, wooden scent. I snap open the book, landing on the most dreaded page.
I knew this was going to happen.
I slide my finger against the torn page. A drop of blood falls onto the page.
Oh shit. I ruined the book!
The paper starts turning a bloody red, the words washing right off the page.
Oh my gosh! What did I do? Oh no, oh no!
Then words start to fill up the page, but they're different than the last. My jaw drops as magic unfolds in front of my eyes.
My finger! Where is the blood? Where is the cut?
Shaking, I read the first sentence. " Keep reading." I continue to read, scared to see what happens if I don't.
The words are changing!
I keep rereading the last sentence. Over and over. I won't stop. My body is frozen. I'm getting dizzy.
Is this real? Is this true? All these thoughts going through my head! I think I've found it. I've found the missing piece. I have the materials, I have her pearl, I have a bottle of her tears, I have a bottle of the water, I have all these pills, and all these potions! But this... This changes everything. I've found the missing piece.
" The last piece you need is your heart. The heart in the picture. The heart you wear around your neck. The heart you need."
I grab the necklace hanging around my neck. It's a golden heart. It's only half though. I grab the picture of me and Evelyn, gently touching her face and close the book. I yank open my closet, snatching any bag that's not raggedy, and start packing the book, the picture, the necklace, the pearl, the tears, and the ponds water. Zipping the bag shut, I hide it where I hid the book, adrenaline pumping through my blood.
I've found it. I've found it. I've found it. I've found it. I found the missing piece. It's been I here all along. All the books I stole, all the books I read, all the secrets I've kept trying to get you out Evelyn. Now is the time. I've found the answer. I'm coming to save you Evelyn. I'll do everything it takes. Anything to get you back...

Thank you SOO much for reading my book, and being supportive! I had to put all my thoughts into this or I would've lost it, so sorry if it's all crammed together. I don't think you can tell? Anyways thanks for being an awesome reader! 💋
