:::Chapter 14:::
-CHARLOTTE -
“What happened that night?” he asked with a serious look in his black eyes.
I suddenly felt myself seize with panic as I remembered flashes of my nightmares and of the grotesque face of that thing. But then I felt the part of me that completely felt confused and wondered about what it really was and then there was that part of me that felt like it actually knew it.
I looked at him with a dark blank look, “If I told you, you wouldn’t believe me,” I laughed bitterly, “They’re all like that, I saw something but I know that it wasn’t human. Strangely I feel as if I do know what it was. Anyway, it’s nothing. I was just joking anyway, it was a fox that’s all… Just a weird malformed fox,” I murmured looking at my tightly gripped hands.
Justin looked at my hands and then brought a hand up to uncurl them, his hands were warm and made me feel all tingly inside… What was it that I was feeling? “Don’t worry, it’s just a bad dream,” he murmured back.
Then there was this sudden cliché moment, we were just looking in each other’s eyes and I felt as if I had a connection with the person before me. It was only when the bell rang and the teacher rushed in did all fall silent and we hastily pulled apart and looked at the board.
I could feel my cheeks redden slightly and I began absently playing with my necklace. Both of us seemed nervous and when the teacher gave us a practical to do, we were acting like two people that were on a date! Wait. Why did I think that way, I could have just thought of something else.
Justin stifled a laugh, “What, what’s funny?” I looked at him strangely.
“You do realize you poured too much of the chemical to the solution, right?” he laughed.
I blushed, “Sorry, I wasn’t there for a minute,” I bit my lip.
The rest of the lesson went uneventful, the tension was broken up between us and he wouldn’t stop teasing me. Guess the evil, annoy the crap out of Charlotte, Justin is back.
After class we ended up having the rest of the lessons together and Justin was actually quite a nice person, he may look intimidating but I thought that whenever he had a real smile on his face that he looked actually like any other normal student. But there were times when he was very reserved about what he said and of course there was the mystery that everyone wanted to know as to where the four new students came from. And let’s not forget how similar all four of their voices sounded compared to the four people that I ran from in the clearing.
The similarities were startling but that was just coincidence they couldn’t have anything to do with those people, could they? I looked at Justin; we were both walking towards the parking lot. His black hair was still put in a messy fashion but his eyes told a dark story. It was those eyes that intrigued me because they looked so dark and sinister but right now they looked lighter with a hint of forgotten anger.
“Well this is where we part, my house is in that direction,” I pointed at the forest.
He frowned, “Is that even safe?”
