Unfortunately, that wasn't the last time Liz would see Tony, but that will come later. The next few days were pretty boring for Liz. Wake up, get dressed, do chores, go to school, do more chores, and go to bed. Her life was simple and easy. At least, until the new kid moved to town.
It was a Monday morning and Liz was going to meet her best friend, Jessica, at her locker. Jessica and Liz have been best friends since the first grade and they made it a habit to meet up before school started. As Liz turned the corner, she noticed two other people standing at the locker with Jess. One of them was Tyler, one of Liz's friends, but she didn't recognize the other.
"Hey, Liz!" Jess said, cheerily as Liz approached the three.
"Hi, Jess," Liz responded, "Who's this?"
Tyler butted into the conversation.
"Liz, this is Nate. Nate, this is Elizabeth." He said
The new kid, Nate, was wearing brand name clothes. Wrangler jeans, a brand name t-shirt, and expensive shoes. He didn't really fit in with the rest of the country kids.
"Hey." he muttered.
"Hi." Liz said with a smile.
Liz thought he was kind of cute. He had a soft chin-line, and his hair was neatly cut. He was also rather thin, and not any taller than Liz.
"So, what brings you to Bronston?" Liz inquired.
"My dad found a job here in town." Nate said, "He's a salesman, so we move around a lot."
"Oh, cool! What does he sell?" asked Jess.
"Uhh..Vacuums?" Nate replied.
"Nice." Jess said awkwardly.
There was an awkward pause, then Tyler spoke up.
"I'm showing Nate around today." He explained, "He's gonna follow me around and stuff."
"Cool," Liz said, "Uh, Jess? Do you want to go to first hour?"
"Sure." Jess agrees.
Then, the four went on with their day. Liz went to Math, Chemistry, Government, and Art. Nate sat with the trio during lunch. It was Mac and Cheese. Normally, Mac and Cheese wouldn't be a bad lunch, but it was a school lunch, and it was the lunch ladies' goal to make everything horrible. The noodles were overcooked and the cheese was so thick that a fork could stand straight up in it. The only way you could force it down was if you put it on a stale breadstick. Nate, however, didn't know this, so when he sat down, he ate a bite of the yellow putty and immediately regretted it.
"Here." said Liz, showing him how to eat it properly.
"Uh, thanks." He said.
They continued to eat their lunch until a girl got on the table next to them and made an announcement.
"The Sweetheart Dance tickets are officially on sale! They are $5 and are being sold in either the central office or at this table! Remember, The Sweetheart Dance is this Friday!" She yelled and got off the table.
"Jessica, are you going to the dance?" Nate asked.
"I don't know, maybe. Depends on if anyone asks me." She said.
It was a wide known fact that Nate had a crush on Jessica. However, Jess seemed completely oblivious and had unknowingly friend-zoned him.
