It had happened quickly, there was a sharp pain but I was instantly paralyzed, making it impossible for me to scream out. I fell to the floor, no longer in control of my limbs. I couldn't hear a thing for what seemed like ten minutes, and when I had gotten my hearing back I still wasn't able to move. I was fully conscious, and heard everything around me.
For a very long time, I would go as far a to say hours had passed, Shane seemed to be arguing to someone imaginary, and Anthony had long since quieted. I started to feel the ends of my fingers and toes tingle, I got excited to be able to move again and could barely wait. I heard shuffling near me.
"What the..." Tyler said. Then he had let out a gasp of shock, "What did you do?"
"Why don't you let your bondmate explain when she can move, shouldn't be long," Shane said, sounding rather annoyed and uninterested.
"How did you know, what did you do to her?" Tyler was having troubles gathering himself coherently, and so he changed mid sentence to come to me. I felt him turn my head. "What did you do to her?" he asked again as I started regaining my ability to move.
"What bond?" Anthony asked, I opened my eyes and he was looking between the two of us. We hadn't told anyone else about our bond.
"I did the same thing to her as I did you. Only she was turned by choice, traumatized by the thought of not having the bond." Shane stated, ignoring Anthony. Tyler connected the dots and touched his neck where he saw the bite on mine. He sat down immediately, he was too overwhelmed. I was relieved that the bond was back, but there was an unfamiliar tone to it. I thought that maybe it had to do with being a vampire instead of human.
There was so much confusion surrounding me, I barely noticed the old lady sitting patiently in front of Anthony. It came to me then that Shane had been arguing with her, she was the imaginary being.
Tyler hadn't said a word and I felt the emotions churning inside of him. Confusion. Anger. Sadness. Disgust. The one that had been strongest was regret. I looked to Shane who'd been scowling down at him. He noticed my glare and I pointed to Tyler, hoping he'd get my point.
Shane sighed dramatically and said, "You're a vampire, um, what's your name? Tyrone, Tristen, Theo?" He snapped his fingers, as if he was trying to figure out what Tyler's name was. Part of me knew that he was faking. "Whatever your name is, congratulations, welcome to the club of vampires."
In an instant the old lady was by Shane, flicking the side of his head. He grimaced and grumbled an apology as the lady stared at him accusingly.
Anthony raised his hand and said, "I still want to know about this whole bond thing." I shook my head and mouthed the words 'not now,' to him. He seemed to understand and we all sat down to take a few minutes of thought.
I took this as my chance to talk to Tyler through the bond we shared. "Do you notice anything different about the bond?"
"Nope," he replied, showing no physical signs of what had gone on between us. I thought it was funny that something so important to both of us could be hidden so well. "Why?"
"Ever since I was turned, I got the bond back, but something's different," I explained to him quickly, sitting back in the couch. I tried to let the relaxed position relieve me of the tension building in the atmosphere around us.
"Nothing's really changed on my end, did you know about this whole thing? I mean I knew you were suspicious but-" he stopped mid sentence, finishing it in a part of his mind he hadn't opened to me. Emotions were fair game; thoughts had to have a type of channel opened in order to let the other hear.
"I didn't know until after you were... turned," I replied. I scooched closer to him on the couch to rest my head on his shoulder. "He did actually tell me about it when you were unconscious."
