Disclaimer- for anyone with sensitivities to violence, there is a little in this part.

We all woke up, grabbing a small meal before we left. Tyler was convinced that I still wanted to be with him, though he was still on guard when Shane and I talked about anything other than getting Anthony to The Well of Souls.

Anthony started showing signs of exhaustion, walking all day wasn't doing his health any good. We had to take numerous breaks throughout our traveling because he needed food. The rest of us could go without, but his human body needed the nourishment.

We were about to leave the restaurant, whose waiter had so kindly given us a lamp for Anthony, when Shane came to an abrupt halt. We all tried looking around, to see why he'd stopped. Shane's emotions had gone numb for a moment, but after that moment of hesitation, pure anger shone through the numb feeling.

"Are you angry or is it him?" asked Tyler, Shane's emotions had leaked through the barrier of me and him, and though I wasn't angry, Ty hadn't known any better.

"It's him," I responded quietly, following his gaze again to a group of people. I was about to reach out to Shane, ask him what was wrong, something. I just needed him to stop feeling the way he did, it scared me.

Without warning, Shane started to jog towards the group of people. Some of them backed away when they saw him, but the people who hadn't noticed him stayed. When he was close enough he slowed to a fast walk, or rather, a fast march. Shoving past the people around him, by then his targets were clear. There were only two guys left standing where they were, both looked rather shady and not affected by Shane rapidly approaching. Shane pushed one of the guys down, and punched the other square in the jaw.

My group of friends and I rushed over to Shane, where he'd been kicking both of his targets on the ground, shouting out angry words I couldn't make out.

I grabbed onto one of his arms, and Tyler was on the other side of him. We pulled him back, he shoved Tyler off but paused when he saw me on his other side. Tears were streaming down the side of his face, he'd gotten so angry it was rapidly changing to sadness.

Turning him to look at me directly, I asked, "what's wrong? Why are you so angry?"

He started wiping the stream of water from his cheeks, getting a hold of his emotions as I stood there. I heard Abby asking the two guys how they knew Shane, even though Tyler had started apologizing for Shane's actions. The two guys ignored Abby and Tyler, nearly giving Anthony a heart attack with the way they'd looked at him.

"They're the people that turned me," Shane finally said in a low, rough voice.

I tilted my head to him, remembering how cruel they had been, luring a defenseless drunk person down, only to turn him and leave him alone in the tunnels. I pulled Shane into a hug long enough to know he'd calmed, but pushed away to grab Anthony's arm and get him away from the sketchy guys.

"Aw, how about you leave that one with us. He can't handle all this traveling," said one of the guys, his face had begun to bruise but that hadn't seemed to faze him.

"Why? So you can turn him too? Haven't you done enough?" I asked in response, holding Anthony tighter to me as if I were afraid to lose him, which I was. The two from Shane's past were outnumbered, they'd have to be crazy or desperate to even try taking him.

"Would someone please tell me how these two know Shane?" Abby asked, desperate for more information.

"They forcibly turned me, then left me alone in the tunnels," Shane explained briefly, he made a fist of his hands and I put my hand on his shoulder to relax him.
