Chapter 2
“Sir! Please slow down!” the horses moved fast through the open field.
“Asher is right, it’s too early in the morning to move that fast. Speaking of which, why are we up so early?” Chance yelled to me. I sighed and turned around rejoining them.
“Where is your sense of adventure!” I asked cheerfully.
“At home, sleeping, sure wish I could join it.” I frowned at Chance.
“No one likes a smartass.” I say sternly with a smile. The field was calm, but we hadn’t hit a village in some time. The sky was at least clear not a cloud in sight.
“We could have gone straight home after we dealt with that troll problem, but no we had to make all these little side stops.” Chance was being a whiner and he looked ridicules trying to blow his blonde hair out of his eyes.
“Asher what do you think?” He may be head of the royal guards but he was still one of my best friends.
“Personal I think this has been fun,” death glare from Chance, “I’m just worried about what’s happening back at the castle.” The black horse I was on moved to the middle of the two brown ones.
“What’s that?” Chance pointed to a small group of travelers. The road they were on went through the forest. The band of travels had two carts and three horses a few men were outside pulling. They were ugly. As we got a little closer we could see that they had a greenish pigment in their skin. Their eyes were almost black and their faces were scrunched up like they smelled something bad, probable themselves. We rode up to them blocking their path.
“Get out of the way!” One of them yelled with a stick in his nasty hand.
“Yeah, move it or we’ll move you!” They must be morons, didn’t they know who I was.
“What are you carrying?” I asked authoritatively. The tall one laughed and pulled a small sword.
“Wouldn’t you like to know.” I rolled my eyes, so they are morons. Asher got off this horse and walked over to one of the carts. Two of the goblins went at him with their sticks, but they were on their backs before they could touch him. The tall one gasped and backed away. Asher pulled a tarp back and inside there were cages with… dead bodies inside. I looked at Chance.
“Check the other one.” I looked at the tall goblin. He frowned squishing his face up more.
“Vampires!” he spat out. I just shrugged. “You’re just filthy blood sucking scum!” His buddies were finally up and they were forming a small circle. This annoyed me a lot; this thing was calling me filthy!
“Watch your mouth goblin! You are speaking to the highest in the land. Not to mention, slave trading is illegal.” Asher snapped holding up a document of purchase. The tall one look mortified and I smiled.
“You’re the- the Demon King!” They all dropped to their knees. Crying and whining the lot of them.
“Slave trading is punishable by death, and I don’t want to have to lift a hand to the likes of you,” they all looked hopeful. “so I’ll just have Chance here do it.” I glanced at Chance as he turned around from the cage. Lifting his hand he snapped the tall ones neck with his power, but that was mere child’s play compared to what he can really do. I mean he is second in command right after me, but being the first two demons to every walk the earth we’re closer then friends more like brothers, and old ones at that, ugh. Asher killed the others and confirmed that all the people in the cages were already dead, so we burned all of it on the side of the road. “How’s that for an eventful morning?” I laughed and Chance rolled his eyes and went ahead. Chance was the only demon who could almost match my power. Also the only one who could say whatever to me and not make me mad… well I could still get mad, but I don’t ever do anything about it. Then there is Asher, my personal guard and very good friend. I spar with him sometimes in the court yard and he can kind of keep up with me. He just needs to lighten up.
