The next morning, there was another one. It was in the streets. Apparently, Mr. Jameson, the mayor was driving down the road when he saw a bloody figure lying in the road. It was covered in scratches resembling that same 3, but the body was otherwise unrecognizable.
My first thought was that it was Benjamin. I yelped and ran to my phone to call him, but there was a text from him saying, "Did you hear about the murder?! It's getting worse and worse Margaret!" So I knew he was alright. "Yeah... I don't know what to think. At first I thought it could be you after you walked home last night but I'm super glad it's not! What are we going to do?" "Let's just lay low for now, and not attract attention to ourselves, the murderer could be anyone!" That was the end of the conversation. He wasn't much of a talker, which kind of upset me, I don't know why, but it did.
The town was becoming paranoid. I could see the fear and tension on everyone's faces on the news, even the leisurely people walking their dogs by my house were rushing along now, as if no one wanted to be outside if they have too. The police have begun patrolling the neighborhoods, in their cars, and just walking. The news reporter said that they have begun inspecting suspicious homes and questioning people, she also said that she would keep us updated.
Update: They found out who died this morning. It was a man named David Cooler. Apparently he was not at home all last night, and his wife thought he was out drinking, and disregarded it. They tried to interview her, but she was too distraught. Nobody had seen him out last night, making his death more mysterious, and unnerving. I spent the rest of the day watching tv. Luckily there is no school anymore, because I don't know what we would do. Some minor businesses are closed tomorrow, on account of lives of the workers, which helped me to relax. I decided to take a nap, and try to rest my now aching head.
Another update: I woke up about 30 minutes later because of sirens wailing down the street. All of the lights and the tv were off. I tried to turn a light on, but the power was down. What was going on? I yell for my mom, and she walks downstairs.
"Yeah, they've been out for a while now." I've been trying to watch the news on my phone. What I've gathered is that two masked figures were seen chopping down a telephone poll, causing a fire and a car accident. They are unable to reach the car to find out if anyone is hurt. It's terrible, I know. Oh! Oh... no!" I run over to her phone and look.
They put out the fire, which was good. But they found a charred car, with only the remains of human bones inside. By the charred lisence plate they identified the person as well. It was another female, but she was single. They also said that the power would be out for at least a week.
Then there was more news. On the other side of town there was a killing of two ore people by another unknown killer, but a traffic light camera, caught what looked like a man dressed in black with a blue mask on his face.
Everything was going wrong. People were grieving all over town, and nobody went outside. Things were going to pieces, at first only in small increments, but now with one fell swoop.
