Jagged

Shattered pieces lay at her feet,
Try as she might, she couldn't put it together again;
Tears flowing, she grabbed the biggest piece, and held it close.
Blood dripped from her hand,
But she didn't let it go:
She would protect that piece.

On down the road, she found another
His hand too was bleeding,
She could see him clutching a jagged piece
Just like she.
"Let me help you," she cried
He stretched out his hand,
And when the pieces touched,
They fit together, not a full heart,
But the pain was now lessened,
The jagged edges not so sharp.

Together they stayed, continuing their journey,
Meeting and helping others
Each time melding pieces of broken hearts
Until there were no more jagged edges;
It didn't look like the heart she once had,
But somehow it was better:
Love from one and laughter from another,
Traded for her piece of patience and kindness.
True her heart was still broken,
But now it was beautiful.
