Not long after I lay down
The darkness places its weight on me;
I push back, try to fight,
But my hands grasp at nothing.
My heart clinches, and air
Is raked through my lungs.
Blood and air both forced
To do their job, reluctantly...
I glare into the night
A growl escapes as well;
The darkness just pats my head,
And settles in, it's full weight
Surrounding me-
I'm always here it moans
Squeezing my heart just a bit tighter;
Gasping I clench my chest,
Clawing, catching naught but air;
Take comfort, it says
I've seen you at your worst,
Never will I abandon you.
That may be true, but
It may end up killing me too.
