Surrender

Another punch and bleeding lip
Knocked to the ground
Face full of dirt, heart full of pain;
But no matter what, I pull myself
Back up again.
It takes its toll though.
I don't stand up quite as fast as
I used to;
Worn, is the softness that once was
A happy heart.
Another tear, another shove, another one-
Standing in my place.
Closing my eyes, and holding high my hands,
My weapon clammers to the ground beneath me.
"I surrender, " is my plea,
"I surrender, just please-please take this pain
Away from me."
My resolve is shattered, I feel like a fool
Succumbed to failure, but perhaps,
This is the only way I'll be able
To fight another day.
