"Release him Arden."
"You sick bastard." Soren raged, throwing a punch at Arden. Bri gasped, Alex immediately had his arms around Soren's neck. But Arden merely stood his ground taking in the punch, absorbing the hit when in truth he could have repelled Soren's human attempt. But Bri and Soren don't know that.
"Soren! What do you think you're doing!" Bri smacked him on the head, snapping me out of the shock. I guess bad things do come in pairs.
"Alex don't let go of him yet." I ordered before Soren could take another step.
"What do you think you're doing?" I sighed, pinning Soren down with a stare as I walked towards Arden.
"He-He immobilised me with some, some weird as hell thing during the entire ordeal. Wha- What are you doing? Let go of me!" Alex held him in place barely using any strength. Soren was squirming all over the place.
I collapsed on the sofa after I made sure that Arden was alright and took a good look around the house. The carpet still had a salt circle on it, the ropes that were cut to take Kara remained as though they were wilting. Blood that belonged to me had dried up on the ground. Even Alex had yet to change out of his bloodstained clothes and Soren was making a big fuss. Everything felt surreal, as though this was a dream.
The only problems I used to have was just trying to stay out of mum and Dale's way. But now I was apparently a key and a portal? I would lead the destruction of humankind when I am half human?
My head pounded with each surfacing thought. As though a dam had broken loose, a barrage of thoughts started whispering and a pinkish haze started clouding my mind.
This time I felt powerful and I was happy about it. I wanted to feel more of it. The pink started becoming darker, the edges of my vision tinged with crimson. I wanted more, more power. And like a bolt loosening, I snapped.
"Shut up Soren. Do you not see what is going on? Do you not see what I have been going through? You think you are caring for me by punching people whom I've repeatedly said were my friends? Soren, stop acting like a child. I have had enough of you. You-"
"Laura, stop." Arden placed his hand on me, the haze immediately disappeared and I felt nauseous.
"Do you not see what you are doing to her? Yes, we are not human, but have we hurt you?" Arden directed at Soren who had fallen limp in Alex's grasp. Ignoring his fallen look, Arden settled onto the sofa pulling me into his arms
"Are you alright? I could feel the pinkish haze. What happened?" Arden murmured, I shook my head helplessly. I could feel as he buried his face in my hair and took a deep breath. Probably to calm himself down while I collected my thoughts.
"I don't know, I started thinking how so many things had been happening and the whispers started. But instead of the black haze like before it was different. I have never felt this way before But Arden, I enjoyed the adrenaline, the power. I wanted to feel more running through my veins."
"Laura, do you mind if you tell us everything that is going on? Like from the start." Bri spoke up, thankfully interrupting my thoughts.
Arden gave me a look saying that we will come back to it and turned to Bri. "Before we begin, I need you both to take the Guardian's Oath." As soon as the words were out of his mouth, Soren scoffed.
"Soren if you don't want to learn and understand what is going on, you need to stay upstairs. This is not child's play, I need you to be mature about this." I rubbed my temples, his attitude was wearing my patience thin.
Arden nodded and an audible sigh escaped his lips. "Now Bri, I'm sure you can see smoke. Follow it and read the words that appear." He instructed, Bri nodded and started her search. Her face was one of concentration until she saw something and her face lit up like a Christmas tree.
