Our story begins on the frist day of 7th grade in a small town in Southern Indiana. There's a young girl sitting in her first period english class, nervously tapping her foot. She had changed a lot over the summer and was afraid that her friends weren't going to like her anymore. When her best friend, Becca, walked in and smiled at her, she was so excited, but not because of Becca. The cutest boy she had ever seen had just walked in. She hadn't seen him before, but she couldn't wait to see him again. This boy was Cole.

Cole turned and saw the girl sitting by herself waiting for her friends. He decided to go and sit with her. This was the first step to the most perfect friendship. "Hi, I'm Cole," he said to the girl. "I'm Samantha," the girl replied. "And this is my friend, Becca," Samantha pointed to the stunned Becca who couldn't believe that her best friend had just chosen a guy over her. "Can I sit with you?" Cole asked Samantha. "I'd love that."

They talked all period, just getting to know eachother. They compared schedules to find out that they had almost all of the same classes together. They walked with eachother to their next class and talked all through it, too. This went on all day, for the rest of the week, and even for the rest of the year. Suprisingly, they passed with flying colors. On the last day of school, they had become such close friends that they didn't want to say goodbye to eachother. "I'm gonna miss you," Samantha said into Cole's shoulder while they were hugging goodbye. "I'm gonna miss you, too. But, it's not for forever. We'll talk this summer and we'll see eachother when school starts up again, I promise." They said their final goodbyes and Samantha got onto her bus. She opened her window and waved to Cole as she drove away. One thing was for certain, she couldn't wait to see him again.

The summer passed unbelievebaly slowly. Cole and Samantha did talk to eachother. Cole called her about once a month and they texted everyday, but they still missed eachother. When August finally arrived, Samantha and Cole were excited to get back to school. The last week passed so slowly until, finally, it was the first day of 8th grade.

They were finally the big kids on the block and they couldn't wait to use their superiorty to their advantage. Samantha had to get there early because she was on the school's morning news. Cole usually got there at the last minute. But, when they finally saw eachother in homeroom, it was like they had never been apart. They talked and talked all day. It was like 7th grade all over again.

It didn't last long, though, because Cole got a girlfriend. They started to gradually grow apart until they never talked anymore. They both secretly missed eachother, but didn't do anything about it.

That was how the whole 8th grade went. They would talk every once in a while, but as soon as SHE came around it was like they had never met. Samantha got the lead in the school musical. Cole became the star linebacker on the football team. Samantha was cheer captain. Cole played basketball. Samantha had choir rehearsal. Cole had to go to weight lifting. They never had time to spend with eachother.

When 8th grade came to a close, they both spoke at their graduation ceremonies. Each year, the staff chooses a boy and a girl to represent their class. These chosen students had outstanding grades, participated heavily, and were well liked by everyone. Cole was the chosen boy, and Samantha was the chosen girl. Both of their speeches were wonderful and afterwards, they got pictures taken together to go up in the office as the Class of 2014's Representatives. There were a few akward words spoken between them and they went their seperate ways.

This pattern continued through their first 2 years of high school. They talked every once in a while, but never for a long time. They smiled at eachother in the hallway when they passed. And they both still wanted to be friends again, but for whatever reason, they never did.
