The three angels were worse than worried parents; Michael was not allowed to stand up or move around too much. Really, he was fine. His injury was already healed - just the tiniest of pains that remained.

It had been three days since Michael had woken up in a bed, somewhere far away from his stomping grounds, and somewhere too close to holiness. He felt ill, but only because the light of thy Lord was so bright and full of pure warmth. Bleh.

Three pairs of eyes stared at him.

He glared back.

"Should we release him back into the wild?" Luke asked his fellow angels, completely ignoring the fact that Michael was right in front of them.

"Yes," Michael chimed in.

"You have no say in this, angel," Luke stuck his tongue out when Michael flipped him off. The blonde angel turned back to his friends. "Anyway, should we?"

Michael sighed, snuggling further into the sheets in hopes of blocking out God's holy rays. Fuck, it felt like even the bed radiated in purity. He didn't mind it so much at first, but he was definitely weakening from the exposure.

His wings were starting to feel restless, every muscle tense in anticipation of flight. He bit at his nails as he listened to those damn angels talk about him like he wasn't even there.

"Angel," Calum started in a whisper in the demon's ear. "Are you ready to leave?"

Michael sat up quickly, swinging his legs over the side of the bed. His hands pushed down against the bed as he readied himself to hop up, but a set of giant hands on his shoulders prevented him from standing up.

"Not so fast. . ." Ashton drawled, his hazel eyes examining Michael's small body. The demon raised a single brow in question. "You have to promise that you won't run away from us anymore."

Michael laughed so hard his chest tightened, and his stomach pulsed in a short spurt of pain. "That's fucking bullshit! I don't want to see any of you for the next week!"

"But after that?" Ashton smiled, and wow, okay. Michael hadn't realized how deep Ashton's dimples were or how his eyes lit up so brilliantly.

Michael despised it.

"After that. . . I'll probably be bored."

Ashton withdrew his hands, Michael instantly heading for the open window. He looked down, the ground so far away it was invisible even to Michael's superior vision. He jumped, spreading his wings as wide as they would go, gliding through the air. When he could see land again, he flapped his wings and began to truly fly.

Two weeks had passed without a trace of the three angels. Michael had wrecked havoc in the town, but it was starting to get boring without anyone to fight with. He would never admit it out loud though.

It was midnight, the full moon bright in the star-studded sky. The crickets chirping drowned out Michael's soft snores from the highest branch in a tree.

Michael's nose twitched at the scent of something vaguely familiar. It was faint and sweet - tender to the senses. Heavenly, even. Michael woke up, frowning as three angels came into his view.

Michael leaned back until he was free-falling in the air; before he could unfurl his wings, Calum caught him.

"I thought we agreed you wouldn't run away," Calum teased.

Michael rolled his eyes, moonlight glinting off his pure black eyes which Calum smiled fondly at.

"Quit staring into my eyes like some hopeless romantic," Michael complained, wiggling his way out of Calum's hold. His sharp wings spread open as he made his way higher into the sky. "It's creepy!"

The three angels were by Michael's side in an instant, causing the demon to sigh. So much for his town's total destruction. . .

"We're back. Aren't you excited?" Luke bopped Michael's nose.

Michael shook his head even though he was happy to have company again. Demons weren't very good companions, and not many angels or humans were willing to speak to demons.

"Don't lie, angel baby," Ashton drawled out the ridiculous pet name.

"Whatever. You interrupted my sleep; couldn't you have come in the afternoon?" Michael groaned before taking a sudden dive towards a lake deep within the woods he resided in.

Luke, Calum, and Ashton weren't far behind.

The lake produced hundreds of ripples as Micheal's wings pushed air towards the water, and his fingers skimmed the surface as he reached out. He landed near the shore, the three angels not far behind him.

Their feet left deep impressions in the otherwise blemish-free sand of the uninhabited beach; the footprints would be gone by the time morning came due to the high tide. No traces of what happened on the beach that night.
