•Pan's words did nothing to faze her. "Go fuck yourself," she hissed at him, her eyes a flaming pit of blue fire.
"Aww. How adorable," Pan said in a condescending tone, his lips still next to her ear. "I thought that was your job," He whispered, smirking wickedly.
Oddly enough, it was that comment that finally drove her off the edge. She'd had enough of him for one night. Suddenly she ducked under his arm, yanking him around and tripping him with one foot before taking off down the alley. Catching hold of the girl who was still cowering against the wall, Merida dragged her along as they reached the road right outside the alley. A black pickup screeched to a halt and the redhead leaped in the bed of the truck, hauling the sobbing girl with her. The blonde driver hit the gas pedal and they sped off, but not before a few bullets grazed the sides of the vehicle. Pan looked after them, his green eyes darkening in anger but unable to do anything as he clutched the pistol in his hand.
Emma glanced through the rear view window at Merida, not saying anything until they were far away and safe at Emma's flat that she shared with her girlfriend. Once they were all inside, Emma turned on the younger woman. If looks could kill, Merida would have been dead. "What the hell were you thinking?! Do you want to get killed?!" She snapped, crossing her arms as she glared at the redhead. "You're lucky I came and looked for you after you disappeared. Again."
Merida shrugged with an uncaring attitude. "I can take care of myself. He wouldn't have been able to hurt me."
The blonde woman rolled her eyes. "He had a gun. Not to mention even if he didn't hurt you, if your dad found out you were anywhere near gang business he'd kill us both. Don't go sneaking out again," she said tersely.
"I didn't do anything," Merida shot back, although as soon as the words were out of her mouth she doubted them. "He was harassing someone and I couldn't just let him." Suddenly remembering the whole reason she'd been tailing Pan, she spun around and looked suspiciously at the girl that he had cornered. She was now hunched over the counter, her eyes fixed on the scratched wood.
"You. What's your name," Merida questioned, the girl's watery eyes meeting Merida's. The redhead didn't let up. "And why did he think you knew something?"
"Wendy," she replied in a small voice that was so fragile that it threatened to break at any moment. "I don't know, he started chasing me and I ran," she whimpered. To Merida's ears she sounded pathetic, but she tried to put on a face of pity.
"Well, Wendy," Merida said, trying out the unfamiliar name, "you can't leave tonight. Pan might still be out there, and he thinks you know something. Until I get it taken care of, you can stay here for the night." The redhead nodded her head towards the blonde. "That's Emma Swan, and the sassy black haired bitch that will be back soon is Regina Mills. The kid is around here somewhere, but he's not important." Merida grinned good-naturedly as she heard an indignant sound from the upstairs as a boy with messy brown hair poked his head around the corner, his eyes widening slightly as he saw Wendy.
"Who's she?"Emma shooed him back upstairs, not wanting him to start asking too many questions. Emma and Regina had left that life since they didn't want to put Henry in danger, but sometimes they still helped out when they were needed, and especially since Fergus was on some type of mission and had left Merida with them.
"Hey kid, need something to eat, or anything?" Emma asked, reappearing around the corner and glancing at Wendy. The girl nodded slightly and mumbled something, which Emma obviously took as her wanting hot chocolate with cinnamon. Getting up from the counter, Wendy found the bathroom and shut the door behind her, and soon Emma could hear the sounds of the faucet turning on as the blonde started making the hot chocolate.
Merida edged towards the door. "I'm gonna get a breath of fresh air. Make me a cup, will you?" She ducked out before Emma could say anything, going down the hall and clattering down the external metal staircase. She jumped the last few steps and landed on hard pavement. Her teeth caught her lip as her eyebrows drew together in thought. She had to figure out what Pan wanted from her father, and why. And something wasnt adding up about that girl. Merida knew that Emma could usually tell when someone was lying, but even so she hadn't said anything when she'd met Wendy. Merida still had a bad feeling about it.
Deciding to wait until tomorrow to do anything, she started trotting down to the corner, where she knew a few blocks away was the diner. Seeing something out of the corner of her eye, she turned a fraction of a second too late as a cloth covered her nose and she breathed in the pungent oder before collapsing.
