Chat Noir stared at the gate in anger. Why did all the bad luck have to happen to him? First, the princess lied to him, then he had received a letter from his mother explaining that Emma was drastically sick and nobody was entirely certain what was wrong with her. One doctor had said it was the plague, another even worried about there being possible cancer.
Chat could not believe how stupid he was. He should have been there next to Emma when she needed him most. Instead, he had spent his time making love to a woman who did not even love him back.
N-no! Ladybug had said, I— I am in love with someone else.
Is that so? Chat had asked, not knowing that the man she meant could have been Nathaniel.
He felt so foolish and used. But most importantly, he felt selfish. All those years not paying attention to his sister just added a heavier weight of regret onto his shoulders. Maybe he still had time to make things right with Emma? Be a better brother than he had ever been to Hugo.
"Adrien?"
The voice sent shivers down his spine and he dared himself not to turn back. Ladybug stood behind him on the rooftop, not sure what to say. She had hurt him deeply and she was not sure how to start apologizing. In fact, she was surprised that Chat would be on duty the night before he left the Dupain Kingdom.
"I'm so sorry that I did not tell you..." she began, "I was going to tell you tonight. I honestly was, but I did not want you to—"
"You are so sorry," Chat sneered, still not facing her, "What were you thinking? Honestly, after coming to the Dupain Kingdom, falling in love with you, making love to you... I thought that..."
I thought that you wanted the same thing, Chat wanted to say, I thought you loved me too. He was so close to saying that he hated her and he never wanted to see her again, but he first wanted to make her know how broken she had made him.
"There was a time where I thought that I would literally give you the world if ever you asked for it. Did you not think it would have hurt me to find out that you are already in love with another man?" he asked.
"Adrien..."
"Not to mention the fact that you're already married to him."
