I wait at the little café with Zach where I told Cyndi to meet us. Its early in the morning and when we left everyone was asleep. No one asked about what happened when Caesar and I finally came out of my room. From the glare Constantine was shooting at Caesar I'm sure he thinks I was fucking him. Constantine should know better.
The bell to the restaurant rings and two people walk in. Usually, I'd be ecstatic to see them but today not so much. Cyndi is all bright smiles and so is Logan, her husband, and my father. When I don't return the smiles, there's fall from their face. They pull out their chairs and take a seat at the table.
"Hey sweetheart, how've you been. Is everything alright?" I swallow the lump that's starting to form in my throat. Instead of responding to her I grab Zach's right arm and place it on the table giving them a clear sight of what I want them to see. I don't trust myself to talk right now. Either I'll start crying or I'll get angry and I don't want to accidentally set this place on fire. Shock fills both of their features. I'm sure they were never expecting this to happen.
"Tell me mére, and this time don't lie, what am I?" She sits their speechless continuing to stare at Zach's wrist.
"When you were given the mark? What happened?" Cyndi asks.
"I heard a voice tell me that I needed to protect Jade and then the man who had shot Jade went up in blue flame."
"Angel fire." She states softly. Why did I even bother? I won't be getting any answers here. I get up without a word and leave. I'll figure it out on my own, somehow. I stand on the sidewalk of the empty street. I hear the bell from the restaurant ding again.
"She's only doing this to protect you."
"She could protect me without lying to me." My pére comes from beside me to stand in front of me. I meet the same kind hazel eyes as Ash. As an alpha wolf, he's tall and very muscled. Even though his hair is short it still manages to have curls here and there.
"She doesn't think she's lying. After she told you I asked her why she told you and she said, 'She might not be chosen yet but in time she will be, I know it."' I sniff to clear my stuffy nose but I don't dare let a single tear fall. I'm never going to cry again. "She loves you and everything she does is to keep you, your brothers and sister, and the school safe." I nod my head in understanding. What's done is done. I give my pére a hug and inside the little café, I can see Cydni talking to Zach staring at him as if he were an angel.

I drive us back to the house quickly and order Zach to get some sleep. He tries talking to me but I'm not ready to talk yet. I grab my trench coat which was placed back in the closet. In the back of the jacket is a hole left from the arrow. On the kitchen table, I leave a note that says one word, hunting.
I don't know where the hell I'm going but I need to get away. With my swords strapped firmly to my hips, I head to the garage and grab the keys to my bike. I speed out of the garage. I wind down the empty dark streets getting further and further from the house. Eventually, I ride into a city but since it's late there and only a few people are out.
So much for hunting. This place is like a dead zone.
The wind whips around the tendrils of hair that I didn't get into my ponytail. I inhale deep breathes of fresh air. Now that I'm far away I already feel better. Being around Zach reminds me of what a freak I am and unlucky for me, Cyndi didn't tell me anything to dispute that.
In the end, it's my own damn fault. I knew she was lying but decided to believe her anyway. A small part of me thought that if I believed hard enough maybe it'd be true. This is why I don't trust people. Or let anyone get close to me. It never ends well for me.
