Prologue
"It's okay, sweetie. I will be okay," I said in a whisper. Pero ang totoo ay hinang-hina na ako. I know how much time I have for him and for our family. Bilang na bilang ko ito sa aking mga daliri.
Hindi pa talaga ako handang lumisan. I wanted more time.
I ran my fingers through his hair. He doesn't have any idea with what's about to happen tomorrow, but I do. At hindi na niya kailangan pang malaman ang tungkol doon.
This is my last night with him. And I wanted to spend my remaining time in peace, without getting him worried.
He was sleeping soundly right here, beside me. My hand reached for his face. Marahan ding humahaplos ang aking daliri sa kaniyang pisngi. Ito na rin siguro ang huling beses na puwede kong pagmasdan at itatak sa aking alaala ang kada detalye ng kanyang mukha.
Napangiti ako habang iniinda ang luhang nagbabadya sa aking mga mata.
"Please take care of our children. I will be watching," mahinang saad ko. Pero alam kong hindi ko na iyon kailangan pang sabihin dahil 'yon naman ang gagawin niya.
I leaned in to have a taste of his lips one last time.
Hindi ko na napigilan ang aking mga luha nang dumampi ang labi ko sa kaniya. I don't want it to end like this. But it has to.
