Turning, I watched Iria stand over Miah. From her mouth fangs appeared. Her hair was crazy and her eyes were scarlet red. My heart stopped as her skin crawled, and turned completly white. Marcus looked at me and a silent message passed through us. He disappeared and i pushed my way through the crowd. Iria's eyes found mine and she held Miah up. For the first time, Miah looked afraid. I walked cautiously to stand infront of them.
"Iria. Put her down."My voice was soft and gentle. But it was a command as well.
Iria hissed. Saliva coming from her mouth."Iria! Put her down!"
My voice was filled with power, making Iria flinch. She set down Miah and then grabbed a hold of me. Not wasting time, she dragged me into the forest.
"Althea!"
"No!"
The screams of my friends echoed around me. The realization hit me. Marcus wasnt coming. I was going to die.
Iria suddenly screamed and i was thrown from her arms angrily. I rolled around the forest floor, trying to get my footing. When i did i stood and gaped at the sight infront of me. Marcus had a knife in his hand, pointing it at Iria. She'd gone back to her original form, but you could still see what she was.
They circled each other. Do something!
I closed my eyes, centered myself, and jumped. I landed ontop of Iria with a thud, bringing her down facefirst into the dirt. She howled in rage and scratched at my arms angrily. Marcus grabed her by the arm and sliced through her tattoo, her source of power. She screamed out and bucked beneath me. I kept my hold on her, no matter how difficult. Marcus caught my eye. Look away.
I did as his knife cut her neck. I stood, blood dripping from the cuts in my arm. He stood and instantly checked them over. He looked relieved.
"What is it?" I asked
"You're lucky she wasnt in her original form. But, there's still a small amount of poision." He moved his lips to one of the larger cuts, seemed to think about it and looked up, "I have to suck out the poision."
I nodded "Do what you have to."
He pressed his lips to the cut and began to suck on it, every once in a while spitting out what he'd taken in. He moved to the larger cuts, saying that the little ones wouldnt matter much. He was gentle as he finished. He stood and suddenly i was in his arms , his lips touching mine in an angry embrace. My eyes closed and in my mind i watched as a silver cord wrapped around us, connecting us, pulling us closer to each other. He was away from me in an instant, tears falling from his eyes.
I knew instantly what was wrong. We were soul mates. The silver cord. My mind wouldnt, couldnt, work straight. He looked at me, and I realized i was crying too. What was i going to do? What about Darien? What would i say to him? Marcus, moving slowly, came to stand beside me. I looked up at him as he whispered, "I have doomed you."
