Poem 13: Keeping Me Sane

There is a place,

Where all my thoughts leave without a trace.

I go there to escape,

And let my beliefs reshape.

There is a town,

Where I'll go when the sun goes down.

This suburb has a broken past,

With tall brown buildings reigning me in at last.

Crooked criminals running about,

Here stay my heart, without a doubt.

I could be here a while,

But I'm not welcomed, I'm a rival.

Maybe this county is broken one,

But here my hidden beauty comes undone.

I've got to be pretty, gotta be smart,

Or it will rip me to shreds and take my heart.

Perhaps it will, either way,

But at least I'll be gone for a day.

There is a car,

Whose shattered windows could take me far.

Driving me this way, and that,

I never want to go back.

The engine roars and sings,

Hiding me from all worse things.

This car and this town will take me places,

Avoiding the shock on their faces.
