Shawn and Tiara

You looked around your boyfriend Shawn’s bedroom. A lot of his drawers were empty and things were taken away from their home in his cozy room you knew so well. He was leaving to go on the Magcon tour today, and you could feel a couple tears in your eyes, but quickly wiped them away so he wouldn’t see. You were  waiting in his room for him to say goodbye as he packed up his car to head to the airport.

His bed sad idle, empty of the cute couple sitting on it, kissing and making faces, watching movies and cuddling. You were going to miss that. Shawn and you had been dating for almost a whole year, and this was the first time you were going to be separated for more than a week. You rubbed your hand over your right arm, covered in Shawn’s favorite hoodie. You felt the red snapback on your head, Shawn’s also. You couldn’t believe how long he would be away. Almost two whole months. How were you going to survive that long? Without his sweet touch… his angelic voice lulling you to sleep every night, whether it was in person or over Skype.

As you were standing there, staring sadly at his bedspread, a long pair of muscled arms wrapped around you, locking their fingers at your stomach. You smiled at his touch as his fresh scent filled your nose. You two just stood as he held you, swaying slightly, enjoying each other, as it was one of the last times you’d see him for a long time. You let the tears drip freely down your face, the drops falling and breaking on Shawn’s arms. He felt them, and you could feel his on your neck. You bit your lip, holding in your full out sobs. He turned you around after ten minutes or so and tried to look into your eyes.

You sniffed, staring down at your feet, knowing that if you looking into his eyes, you would break down. You could barely go a day without seeing him, let alone months! It was going to kill you every day of winter break and all the way into January.

“Tiara,” Shawn said softly, barely audible, as he stroked your cheek with his hand. His skin was rough and his fingers hard from his guitar playing, but they felt at home and comforting on you. “Tiara,” he said a bit louder, but still only loud enough for you to hear. You raised your eyes a little but enough so you could see up to his chin, pointing down to meet you.

He tipped your chin up with his right hand, his other hand running up and down your back soothingly. You dared to look into his eyes and you could see how sad he was to leave you. They didn’t sparkle like they did when you were around him, they were dull and dim and you couldn’t see any life in him at all. The tears came faster, your face soaking wet, eyeliner running, mascara flaking off your lashes.

“I love you,” he said. You sniffed, but didn’t break eye contact. You knew if you tried to look again, you’d cry terribly.

“I love you,” I responded, my voice cracking at the end. I sobbed in his arms and he just held me against his chest. He kept whispered reassuring things in my ear, his voice deep and filled with depression. Gloom leaked out of his words and the air was so dense that I could feel the sadness.

“I’m going to miss you so much, Tiara.”

“I’m going to miss you so much more. At least you have something to do. I’m just going to be sitting here by myself,” I sobbed, my voice cracking and sniffing between words. Shawn’s tears fell into my hair, but I didn’t care.

I finally broke apart, hearing the car horn sound from out his window. I tried my best to smile at him, but the happiness just didn’t show on  my face. I ran my hand across my face and sighed.

“Don’t let all those pretty girls get to you,” I said.

“You know I won’t, Tiara. You’re my only girl,” he said, rubbing circles onto my palm.

“Shawn! We’ve got to go! You’re going to be late for your flight!” Someone yelled from downstairs. Shawn embraced me one last time.

“I love you, Tiara. I’ll see you soon, boo.”
