I hope you like it, Jennie!
Alex Constancio Imagine for Jennie
It was hot, way too hot for my liking. I pushed my hair out of my face for probably the thousandth time today, and pulled the hat I was wearing off before smoothing out the roots of hair on top of my head. I cracked my neck and wiped a little of the sweat off my neck. The white tank top I wore was sticking to my back and the shorts I wore felt like dead weight. I wiped off my forehead again and replaced my sunglasses on my face.
I readjusted my grip on the penny board I was holding and looked around. Gracie was nowhere to be found. I glanced around, trying to spot her bright blue skirt or white top. I couldn’t see her. The farmer’s market was packed and people were hustling their sweaty butts around trying to get a pick at all the fresh fruit. Today was the hottest day our town had had in thirty years. Gracie had demanded that we come, so she could get the best peaches for her mom’s peach pie. I can admit that Gracie’s mom made the perfect peach pie, but I wish I didn’t have to be dragged along.
“Gracie?” I called out. No one responded. I rolled my eyes and sighed. Instead of burning to death, I decided to walk over to the benches on the side of the street. I sat down and placed my penny board on the ground. I finally spotted Gracie over at the peach stand, but she seemed too into picking her peaches so I decided to stay put.
I had been sitting there for five minutes or so when I heard some guitar playing from behind me. I turned and saw a teenage boy playing the guitar sitting next to the most attractive person I’d ever seen in my entire life.
He had brown hair that was long but spiked up, brown eyes and was short… but I liked short boys. He was wearing an identical snapback to mine, blue with a red brim. He sat next to his friend, eyes closed and humming while he listened to the music. I was staring for too long, I guess. Because eventually the guitar player looked up at me and smirked. He nudged the attractive boy who glanced over at me. I immediately averted my attention to my hands, fiddling with my fingers. But I heard some footsteps coming towards me.
“Hi,” the boy said. His voice was sweet.
“Hi,” I said awkwardly, not daring to look him in the eyes.
“I’m Alex,” he said.
“I’m Jennie,” I said back. I looked at him and gave an unsure smile.
“You’re really pretty,” he told me. I blushed.
“Thanks.”
“Do you want to go somewhere cooler? It looks like you’re about to die,” he said, laughing at himself.
“Yea, sure,” I said.
“How about ice cream? My treat?” he offered his hand to me. I gladly took it as he walked me over to the ice cream shop.
