Chapter 10

All of the students are crammed in the great hall, the story about my dad attempting to break into the Gryffidor common room spreading like wildfire. I get a number of dirty looks, and some people, eyes overflowing with fear. I sit in a corner, avoiding everyone, and they happily avoid me too. Even Lizzy refuses to come within a ten-food radius as if I had some sort of terrible flesh-eating disease that will turn you into a brain-craving zombie or something.

Dumbledore explains what happened, pushed the tables against the walls with magic and conjured sleeping bags for each students. He then left us with the prefects, vultures that hunt and finish off anything that has less power than they do. “Okay everyone, lights out, and go to sleep. No talking!” Percy Weasley, the head vulture, scolds all of the murmuring children in the hall. No problem there I mentally send to Percy. Everybody's scared to come anywhere near me, let alone talk to me. I slide into my black sleeping bag, and just lay there. I debate sneaking out and visiting my dad. No, that's too risky. People would notice if you left. I sigh and settle into the fluffiness of the inside of the sleeping bag. I hear the muted whispers and the hiss of “stop talking! Go to sleep!” of Percy. I roll over in my sleeping bag. Oh dad, I desperately think, why are you so stupid?

I wake up desperately wishing that last night was just a nightmare, but it was found to be untrue. The great hall was still packed with every student in Hogwarts inside sleeping bags, fast asleep. I don't know what time it is, and I don't care. I stand up and Percy, who I think took that he was “in charge” to heart ran over “Miss black, lay back down and go to sleep!” he hissed. I roll my eyes at the poor excuse of an authority figure.

“since when are you the boss of me.” I came back moodily.

“I'm head boy.”

“Oh, so you think that little badge will make me follow your orders? Your not very smart, are you?” I ask cocking my head to the side. He spins around on his heel and storms away. I can almost see the smoke hissing out of his ears. I see him rapidly conversing with some prefect from Hufflepuff. I walk out of the great hall and just wander around the corridors.

I ran into Dumbledore in the middle of the corridor near the library. And when I say ran into, I literally mean I crashed into the headmaster and fell on the floor. “holy shizzle professor your a freaking brick wall! Oh have you found my daddy yet?” I ask him.

Dumbledore's blue eyes twinkle in humor as he answers. “No, your fathers long gone, Alice.” I breathe a whooshing sigh of relief. Dads not going back to Azkaban. “Maybe you should go back to the Great Hall, Percy will be less than pleased when he realizes your gone.” Dumbledore laughs.'

“Oh, he already knows. And I don't think hes too happy with me. Well I guess you don't really like someone when the question their authority then walk out. It one of the many reasons Snivellus doesn't like me...” I ramble. Dumbledore just looks at me in pure amusement.

“Alice. Do not call him 'Snivellus' you will show him respect, Professor Snape.” I just nod and wave him off and make my way to the great hall again, taking a detour, dawdling around some paintings and suits of armor.

By the time I reach the great hall, most students are awake, either complaining about aching backs or gossiping more about my dad's whereabouts. When they noticed me walking back in all the voices murmuring flickered and died slowly. Every eye followed each movement that i made.

I walked over to Harry, Ron, and Hermione. "Please, just hear me out." I whispered. They just stared. "I'm not my father. I didn't do anything wrong, and your holding his actions against me. What if I did that to you? think about it; are you being any better than the Slytherins that you dispise so much?" and for a moment, i didn't think they heard me, because all they did was blankly stare at me.
