Recap: I looked up at Riley who looked at me expectantly as if to say, ‘we are here, now get out.’ I opened my door cautiously so I didn’t shift any of the glass that was embedded in my hands. The glass in my knees went deeper than those in my hands; I could actually feel it rubbing against the bone. It got so painful that my vision became blurry and I passed out in the middle of the hospital parking lot.
Chapter Three
Florescent lights assaulted my closed eyelids and I groggily woke up. How did I get here? All I remember is this horrific nightmare where Riley hurt me. I sat up in the hospital bed and grabbed the glass of water, taking a huge gulp when I had it in my hands. I felt pain in my hands from moving them and I looked at them curiously, they were bound with gauze. I brought them up to look at them but put them back down as I began to feel nauseous… It wasn’t a night mare… it actually happened…
In my sulking I hadn’t noticed a boy with green hair, wearing a shirt that was two sizes too big for him, jeans cut off shorts, and Chuck Taylors. “Uh… Hello… Do I know you?” I asked hoarsely.
“No… but I know you…” He said with a smirk and my stomach dropped in fright. “Okay that sounded terrible. Let me clarify, no you do not know me but you know my best friend… I think you broke him.” He said thoughtfully, there was no way Riley would be friends with this guy. I mean I did not have a problem with him, but Riley tended to read a book by its cover… and this cover was very… colorful?
“That doesn’t help me out much.” I said with an awkward chuckle.
“I am Tre Cool… My best friend is Billie.” He said with a smile and my mood turned sour as a deep frown made its way to my face.
“Okay why are you here then?” I asked.
“Oh my friend Mike broke his nose with his bass.” He said before busting out laughing, my lip twitched a little at the ends but I wasn’t in the spirit to smile.
“That is not what I meant. Why are you here in my room?” I said sheepishly.
“To talk obviously.” He said sarcastically.
“Oh… Is he here?” I asked, hoping he wouldn’t walk into my room at any moment.
“Yes, but he doesn’t know I am here.” He said as he walked over and sat on the couch parallel to my hospital bed. I sighed with relief. “He is not as bad as he seems you know… and I mean you hurt him bad.”
I scoffed. “Ihurthim? Buddy, I think you have that backwards.”
“Its funny most of the time we never knew he was dating a girl. That is until she walked up and started making out with him in the hallway. He never talked about them and the whole freaking week after he met you he would shut up about you at band practice. That’s a big deal for his mind to stray from our band.” He explained.
“Maybe he should have thought about that before he kissed me, then not even an hour later I saw him kissing his girlfriend that I thought he broke up with.” I snapped.
Tre laughed. “That’s what you think happened?” he said before laughing again.
“That is what I know happened.” I sneered.
“He told us Heidi pushed him on a tree and assaulted him. It was a goodbye for her if you will, and I guess you didn’t see her running away in tears because he didn’t kiss her back after breaking she broke up with him on the phone.” My stomach dropped as I thought about this, maybe I got him all wrong. “This doesn’t make much sense to me if she broke up with him. Then tried to kiss him, and gets upset when he doesn’t kiss her back…You know he was the one that ran out of the driver’s seat of his car when he saw you in the parking lot. He picked you up and carried you like fifty yards to the doors of the hospital.” He added and I felt sick to my stomach because of all of the hateful things I have thought about him this past month.
