Lexi's POV
"I'm heading to Jenna's to finish our project! Bye Mom!" I called out as I swung my bag over my shoulder.
"WAAAIIITT!! YOU FORGOT YOUR LAPTOP!!" My little step-sister Ella yelled as she flew down the stairs holding my laptop. Her dark hair bounced up and down and her hazel eyes shined.
"Here you go sissy." She said handing me my laptop.
"Thanks Ella." I said as I took my it and stuffed it in my bag.
She smiled and ran off, probably to go bug Nick, my stepbrother and her real brother. Nick was only 1 year older than Ella but he acted like he was 5 years older, always being overprotective of her.
I smiled as I watched Ella disappear upstairs again. Even though the three of us were half siblings, we acted like we were real siblings.
When I was young, about 4, my mom and dad split. Neither of them told me why and I never saw my dad again. Being young at the time, I didn't exactly understand but I constantly asked my mom when he was coming back. It wasn't until I was about 8 that he was never coming back.
He left. He didn't even try to communicate with me or my mom, at least from what I know. I loved him and I still do. I sometimes cried at night, thinking of all the happy moments I spent with him. They were vague but I missed those times so much.
Then came along my stepdad. He took me in as if I were his own daughter. It made me a lot happier, I even call him Dad.
I remember the day, he and my mother got married, and the day they told me how they were expecting Nick, then Ella. I was overjoyed. I felt happy again, like I belonged somewhere.
Now here I am, 18, in my senior year in high school. I'm a black belt in karate, pretty much a pro fencer, and I rock at boxing. I guess it was for the better?
The sound of my cell phone ringing snapped me back to reality. I received a message from Jenna.
'Jenna: What's taking you so long? You live like 10 minutes from me!'
'Lexi: Sorry I forgot my laptop and had to go get it. Be there in a few!'
I dashed outside yelling a quick bye as I slammed the door. I sped walked to Jenna's, arriving to see Jenna sitting outside on her front porch.
"Well gee! Took you long enough!" She said jokingly and throwing her arms up. I smiled and rolled my eyes at her.
"Come on girl we've got work to do!" She said as she opened the door and we both stepped in.

"Argh! Finally!" Jenna said as she fell back on her bed and buried her head into her pillow.
I couldn't help but laugh at her. We spent 3 hours finishing our science project and I ended up doing most of the work.
"Jenna you didn't even do that much!" I told her smiling.
She glared at me and threw a pillow at my face, which I easily deflected.
"Be quiet Lexi!" She yelled in her pillow as I laughed at her attempt to hurt me.
My karate skills have paid off in a way I guess. After I settled down a bit, I looked at my watch, 7:30. Shit I needed to get home.
"Hey Jenna I gotta get going. I'll see you Monday." I said as I packed my stuff into my bag.
She picked her head up a little. "Ok bye Lexi."
I smiled and headed outside into the cool night.
