John and I have been best friends ever since we were very little. There is one thing, however, he cherished more than anything else.

You guessed it. Turtles.

Didn't matter what type, he loved them.

I scurried over to his house, nervous and cold from all the snow. He was about to go to war, and I was going to tell him how I joined a faction in the army.

I already knew he would be mad, but if he got hurt, I need to be able to confess how I feel. And give my last goodbye...

I neared the door and proceded to knock on it. John opened it and noticed my freezing figure. "(Y/n), it cold outside. C'mon inside, I'll help warm you up."

Laurens gave me hot tea placed me in front of his fireplace. "So, why did you come all the way to my house in a snow storm?" He interrogated. I froze and tried to find the right words.

"I'm in the army now."

Laurens sat in shock at my words. I was waiting for his disapproving response, but he couldn't bring himself to talk. "John, are you ok?"

"Why would you do that, (Y/n)? You know it's dangerous... You could get seriously injured." Laurens shakily stated.

"Don't worry, John. I became a nurse. I'll be able to help from a safe distance." Laurens growled. " It doesn't matter. Those bastard British men will stop at nothing to wipe out all of our men and ladies."

He started to mumble to himself. Did he care that much? And if so, why?

"I'll be as careful as possible. I just want to help out you, your friends, and your troop."

Laurens chuckled and brushed a piece of my hair behind my ear. "Please, do be careful. Try not to leave the medical tent. I'll ask Washington to have a man guarding your tent."

I felt like he was too scared, but it was understandable. The reason I was doing it was so I could make sure he was safe.

"Alright Johnny. You have to promise that you be careful though." I sternly said. Laurens sighed because he was bad at keeping promises. Not to mention that once he got into battle, he was a killing machine. No doubt that he would charge onto the scene.

"I'll try my best."

He let me stay over at his house till morning. I slept on his bed and he slept in the living room. I refused to have him sleep on the couch, but he just brushed off my worries for him.

The sun was barely up, but John was wide awake. He pulled the blankets off the bed, which left a cold and cranky me lying there.

"Jooohhnn. Five more minutes." I whined. "Tsk tsk. If you want to join the army, then you must get up at the crack of dawn. Besides, we have to get the the camp in about an hour."

I sprawled up and walked to the front door. I needed to get my clothes from my house, but John blocked the door. "You are going to go out with just that on?"

I looked down and noticed that the dress I was wearing was not very long, and probably covered down to my knees. John decided to let my wear one of his uniforms for now while he walked me to my house.

It was a little big, but I didn't care.

As we rummaged through the snow, we eventually arrived at my house. We walked in and I asked John to wait in the living room while I changed and got my bag.

John's pov:
I decided to take a look around (Y/n)'s living room. It was relatively small, but she did live alone. She had some pictures lying ontop of the fireplace. A couple were of her family, but one was of us when we were younger.
