"She's not too bad." I explain, but Cat still looks unconvinced.
"I don't trust her. Just be careful." She warns, and I chuckle at her serious expression. As if Newbie would be threatening in any way. She's the most innocent girl I know.
"C'mon Cat, look at her." Thomas is flirting with Anne and I can see the deep red blush on her cheeks from where I sit.
"I don't trust her, she's going to hurt you." Cat says and I turn to her quickly.
"What?" I almost laugh. The girl's got nothing on me.
"Something's off about her." I don't bother replying this time. I lean back on the table and inhale deeply, closing my eyes. I open them again only to see Newbie watching me like she does sometimes. It doesn't bother me as it used to, I'm more curious now about what she's thinking.
The following week, tuesday night movie night continues and Newbie shows me another one of her favorite movies: Avatar. We don't talk as much and she leaves once the movie is over.
The next day after class, Cat is waiting outside the building. I give her one of my cigs and she smiles a genuine smile. We sit back near the big old tree again, Cat leaning against it.
"So what's up with you and Anne?" She questions, her eyes showing suspicion.
"She came over to watch a movie, that's all. You're all in the Honeymoon
phase with Lil so I couldn't exactly ask you." I reason but she still keeps her eyes narrowed."Why do you like her anyway? She's so... not your type." Cat says before taking another drag. I roll my eyes at her prying but answer anyway, knowing she won't let this one go.
"She's decent company. We're not fucking or anything, no need to get defensive. What's your deal with her anyway?" I talk back. She knows how I am with girls, that I don't exactly treat them well or keep them around long enough to. I don't like the drama around it. Pretty funny that she thinks Newbie could change that.
"You know what my deal with her is? She pretends to be little miss innocent but there's something off about her. You know she went on a date and kissed Charlie right? And now she's hanging onto you like this." She spills and I gape at her. What the....
"How do you know all of this?" What the fuck, she went on a date with Charlie?
"Charlie told me how boring their date was and how nothing happened." She shrugs as if she's telling me what's for dinner.
"Nothing happened?" I urge. She just said they kissed.
"Yeah, Charlie kissed her and she barely responded." I immediately flash back to the night in her dorm and how she came onto me. She barely responded to Charlie? What the fuck? My mind spins and I don't know what to make of this. Am I really her next try?
"Not what you thought of little miss perfect, is it?" Cat taunts and I flip her off.
"How ... Charlie out of all people?" I question and Cat laughs.
"Mm I thought that too!" She laughs harder.
We joke around a bit more but my thoughts are still reeling about this new information. I like Newbie's company and I feel comfortable around the girl... but Charlie, really? I wouldn't even care if she would've told me about it at least.
