Chapter 4-

‘Mum!’ I ran down the hospital corridor, my converse squeaked on the polished floor. I was enveloped into a tight hug. I could feel my mother’s heart pounding onto my chest. ‘How is he?’ I asked into her hair.

‘He’s sleeping; the doctor wants him to rest. He broke two ribs and sprained his wrist. The car speed off, he was lucky someone saw what had happened.’

I went by his bed and sat on the seat. His eyes flickered open and he gave me a crocked smile.

‘Hey lil sis, what you doing here?’

‘Came to tell you off, now mum will never let me near your motorbike you dope.’ I nudged his uninjured shoulder.

‘Well I can’t help it if my amazing good looks distract drivers.’

‘Yeah I’m sure that was what caused the crash.’

The door opened and a doctor came through with a clipboard. ‘Excuse me,’ he said looking at me. ‘The patient needs to rest. Could you please visit during the visiting hours tomorrow.’

‘Can’t I leave?’ Joe asked.

‘No, I’m sorry but we want to make sure you haven’t got shock and we need to check that your ribs are healing properly. The earliest you’ll be discharges will be Wednesday.’ He headed for the door holding it open for me and mum.

‘See ya later,’ I waved and was practically shoved out of the door.

By the time I got home and into bed it was 2am. Great four hours sleep.

‘You ok?’ Abbie asked on the way to school. ‘You look like shit.’ The lovely truth from friends.

‘Thanks,’ I smiled ‘I was at the hospital last night. Joe was involved in a crash.’

‘Shit, sorry, is he ok?’

‘As cocky as ever.’

I made my way to Citizenship and sat at the back. I hated Citizenship; it was common sense with a few facts. And the teacher always made my life hell as I was the only person in the class who knew anything. I started finishing off my essay from last week. I had finished within 20mintues and the rest of the class were still scribbling away. Miss was most likely looking at shoes on her computer. I put my headphones in and phased out.

‘KAT!’ Miss bellowed, standing in front of me. She sounded like a man. I beat she is a man.

‘Can I help you?’ I smiled sweetly knowing all to well it would piss her off even more.

‘I said can you read your introduction to the class.’

I put my iPod in my bag and opened my book. ‘During this essay I will-‘

‘Class this is an example of what not to do in an essay.’ The bitch interrupted me. ‘You never start and essay with “During this essay I will” it is unimaginative and as a teacher I will mark you down.’ She always said this speech, so I always stared my essays with it. I agreed with her it was unimaginative but I enjoyed pissing her off. True to her word she always marked me down, but then I still always got the highest mark.

‘But miss, Mr Clark said that it was fine to start our essays this way.’ She and Mr Clark had had a fling but he cheated on her and that was that. He soon left as like in any school the news went round like wildfire. She hated it whenever he was mentioned, so I made it my duty to always mention him.
