Chapter 5-
‘Ready’?! Joe shouted into my room. It was Friday evening and we were getting ready to leave for Manchester.
‘Almost,’ I shouted back squeezing Kerrang! into the side pocket of my holdall. Grabbing my lip balm I threw the holdall over my shoulder and got into the car. Mum drove Joe and me to Kings Cross. With only 10 minutes until our train departed we waved at mum and ran to our platform.
‘Move out of the way, temporally disabled person coming through!’ Joe shouted to the whole platform. He still had a sling to prevent movement so his ribs could heal and he was using it to our advantage. We made our way to the middle of the carriage but all the seats were taken. Following Joe I put my bag on the floor and sat on it. Plugging in our iPods we both got ready for the journey.

‘Oi’ Joe nudged me awake. ‘We’re here.’ We got up and walked onto the platform. Joe leading the way I followed behind him. Mum had booked us a taxi to meet us at the station to take us to Amy’s house. Hopefully I won’t have to see Rhys until tomorrow. The taxi driver put our bags in the boot and then we pulled away from the station and towards Amy’s house. Joe had texted mum to let her know we hadn’t been bombed or anything and was texting Amy to say we were on our way. As we get towards the house the front door is banged open and Amy ran out. Her blond hair blowing everywhere in the wind. Followed by her mum and Megan then to my horror Rhys. Joe is beaming like a Cheshire cat and already paying the taxi driver and jumping out of the car. Ok, think Kat, maybe I can get the taxi driver to leave with me still in the car. Brilliant I’ll just sink down into the seat and – ‘You alright love?’ The taxi driver asked. Shit he noticed me plan ruined.
‘Umm, yeah,’ I said sitting back, so fast I bash my head on the roof. ‘Ouch, I was just getting an umm an ear ring.’ I rubbed my head and got out of the car. An ear ring, really Kat that was the best you could come up with.
‘I’ll get the bags then.’ I shouted over to Joe who was snoging Amy. I got the bags and started to walk to the house.
‘Let me help,’ Rhys said running to my side.
‘That’s ok, I’ve got them thank you.’ I hug the bags closer to me, I don’t need his help. I make my way upstairs dump Joes bag on Amy’s bed and put my bag in the guest room.
‘Tea,’ Tracy, Amy’s mum, shouted up the stairs.
‘Please,’ I shouted turning round and walking into Rhys. ‘Jesus, what are you my bodyguard?’ I asked taking a step back but failing over my bag. Smooth Kat, real smooth. Rhys grabbed my forearm to save me from hitting the floor. ‘Thanks,’ I mumbled straightening my top.
‘We need to . . . sort this out.’ Rhys said looking everywhere but at me.
‘What’s to sort out, we act like a happy couple, so no one knows, I go back to London and we take a break.’
‘What?’ Rhys asked stunned, ‘You’re not serious about the break are you’
‘No you got me, ha ha ha, it was all a lets fool Rhys joke,’ I said my arms flying around like a crazy person. ‘Of course I am serious.’ I said with clenched teeth.
‘Heres your tea,’ said Tracy coming in putting the mug down on the bedside table. ‘I’ll leave you to love birds to it, loads to catch up on I bet.’
‘Thank you,’ I said. Tracy closed the door and I turned back to Rhys. ‘Look can you just go. It’s been a long day and I really just don’t want to do this.’
‘Then let’s not,’ Rhys stepped towards me taking hold of my hands. ‘Let’s go back to normal. Please.’
Say no Kat. Say no. I looked up at Rhys. My eyes stared into his dark brown ones. ‘Ok,’ wait what just came out of my mouth. Rhys smiled at me. Not expecting that reply. ‘On one condition,’ my voice got harsher ‘You dare make it a fifth and a break isn’t even an option. Understand? I’ll never even speak to you again.’ Rhys lifted his thumb to my check and wiped away a tear. Great I cried during my macho speech, brilliant. He pulled me into a tight hug and whispered into my hair ‘I promise. Never again.’ He kissed me lightly on the lips and walked towards the door. ‘I’ll leave you to unpack; I’m in Megan’s room. I love you Kat.’ He opened the door and as he was about to leave I whispered ‘I love you too Rhys.’ His smile doubled in size and he shut the door.
