Once the Luthins had everything unpacked, the next few weeks were rather uneventful.
James, the husband, would wake up at 6 a.m. every week day and get ready for work. Laura, his wife, would get up at 6:30 a.m. and make coffee for her and James, hand him his cup and give him a kiss as he walked out the door, and then go write in her office till noon. At noon she would go into the kitchen and make some amazing smelling lunch for herself, eat it while reading on the couch in the living room, then go back to writing for another few hours. Then, at 5 p.m. every day, James would get home from work, set his work bag by the back door in the kitchen, and go into Laura's office to check on her. After chatting for a bit, he'd kiss her on the head and then go sit in the chair in front of the bookshelves and read. At 5:30 p.m. Laura would emerge from her office again and go make dinner, she was an amazing cook and they would always have gourmet level food for dinner. She would bring two steaming plates out to the living room, set them on the coffee table and go over and kiss James' cheek and tell him dinner is ready, they would then both sit on the couch and chat while enjoying the wonderful meal Laura had made. When they finished eating, James would take the dishes into the kitchen and wash them, dry them, and put them away. When he was done with that they would sit on the couch and watch TV while cuddling until about 9:30 then they would go to bed. They usually went straight to sleep, although they fooled around a few nights a week.
Weekends were more interesting though.
On Saturdays they would sleep in till about 10, then when they finally got up Laura would go make some fabulous breakfast and James would make coffee and then they would go sit on the floor in the living room and eat, when they were done eating James would take the dishes and wash them while Laura would find all the blankets and pillows she could from around the house. When James was finished he would come into the living room and help Laura build something with the pillows, sometimes a pillow fort, sometimes a big nest, sometimes a "throne" for Laura, which consisted of blankets and pillows piled as high as they could get them; whenever they did this James would refer to her only has "Your Majesty." When they had finished building their creation Laura would go make up a tray of snacks and bring it out to the coffee table and then they would watch TV while snacking and playing around in their creation all day, and then at dinnertime Laura would head into the kitchen to begin cooking while James put all the pillows and blankets away. They both usually finished about the same time and James would help Laura carry their plates out to the coffee table and they would eat while talking about plot points of the book Laura was writing. When they finished eating James would do the dishes and Laura would go to the bookshelves and grab a thick book, containing several of Shakespeare's plays. When James finished he would join her in the living room and they would dramatically act out scenes from the book and then collapse to the floor in giggles. Then after a few hours of this they would go to bed, exhausted from all the drama and laughter.
On Sundays they would wake up at 7. James would shower while Laura made coffee and a quick breakfast. James would then go into the bedroom to get dressed while Laura got a shower. When she got out she would go to the bedroom and get dressed while James ate his breakfast. when she was done she would join him in the kitchen, they would finish their breakfasts, Laura would grab her purse and they would head out the door. They would usually be gone for about 4 hours, although sometimes they would be gone longer, when they got home early Laura would make lunch while James read in his chair, when lunch was ready they would sit on the floor and eat while watching TV, then take a nap on the couch. When the got home later they would usually just collapse on the couch together and take a nap. They would wake up around 4 and read together, James sitting in his chair and Laura sitting in his lap. At 5:30 Laura would get up, kiss James' head, and go make dinner, when she was done they would eat dinner while watching TV, when they were done, Laura would go do the dishes while James grabbed a thick poetry book from one of the shelves. When she was finished with the dishes she would meet James in the living room and they would pass the book between them reading poems aloud to each other, after a few hours of this they would go to bed.
And thus was their schedule for about 7 months after they moved in. But that all changed, one fateful day in mid September.
