The next morning Laura had a storage pod delivered to the house and she started moving boxes out of the third bedroom. She would look in each box, label it, and put it in a specific stack in the living room when a stack reached 4 boxes high she would take it out to the pod. After a few hours she took a lunch break and read for a bit on the couch. but when she was done she went right back to work. Until she opened a big cardboard box at the bottom of the stack she had been working through. When she opened that box she sat down on the floor and pulled out a big black book. She gently opened it and started flipping through pages, after looking through a few pages she opened it to a page with a giant family picture plastered across both pages. She immediately started crying, then gently sobbing, then body wracking sobs. After a few minutes she grabbed her phone from on top of a box next to her and called her mom.
"Hey momma" she said.
"What's the matter dear? You sound like you've been crying"
"I was, I found the old family photo album and was looking through and I saw a picture of Sophie"
"Oh darling, do you want me to come over?"
"Yes, please"
"Okay, I'll be there in 20 minutes hon" her mom said, right before hanging up.
Laura flipped through more of the book, silently crying over each page.
About 20 minutes later there was a knock on the front door. Laura wiped her tears away, stood up, and went to open the door. As soon as she did she hugged her mom and began crying again.
"Momma, its all my fault, I should have noticed when she didn't come back to bed, I should have noticed that she wasn't okay, I should've said something momma. It's all my fault!" she choked out between sobs.
"Now now dear. You know its not your fault, if its anyone's fault, its mine and Paul's, we should have been better parents, we should have noticed too, and there is no way I'm going to let you take the blame for it. Your sister killed herself because your father and I were horrible parents, not because you were a bad sister. Your sister loved you, she thought the world of you. She said in her letter that you were the reason she held on as long as she did."
"Then why wasn't I good enough for her to hold on longer?" Laura asked, still sobbing into her mother's shoulder.
Laura's mom held her close as she slowly moved them to the couch and sat down, making Laura sit down next to her.
"Now dear, you know that isn't your fault, Sophie loved you, but everything just sorta outweighed that, and that is you father and I's fault, it is in now way on you"
"D-do you still ha- have her letter?"Laura choked out.
"Yes, its in the box of Sophie's papers at home"
"Ca-can you bring it to the baby shower? I want to read it again."
"Of course dear, now, lets get some tea and finish clearing out that room, huh?"
"Okay"
