The tent was full of spectators, like always. The dark blue walls hid the crowd from the rest.
On stage, the two twins were getting ready to start their play.
Mabel was making sure her attire was perfect in very little detail, while her brother was reading the more he could on his journal, fixing a bang of hair that wasn't in its usual place.
Stan stepped in and announced their entrance. It was show time.

When the curtains were opened, Mabel was the first to be revealed to the crowd, all smiles and nice manners.
As she was cheerfully waving to the crowd, Dipper stepped in at her side and starting waving along.
He didn't care enough to smile.
That's why he was labeled as the more depressed of the two, and that's why Mabel was always the first one to step in.

The curtains fell open as the crowd cheered.
Mabel started the usual introduction as he gazed to the crowd as he waited to make his entrance.
Today's spectators looked as boring as usual, if it wasn't for a blonde girl in the fourth line.
He couldn't quite picture her very well from his position, but he could clearly see the mix between curiosity and fear in her eyes.
A subtle idea started shaping in his mind.

As Mabel announced his name, he snapped out of it to reach his sister on stage, holding her hand.

He bow down and then stood up, throwing quick gazes at the blonde girl.

Mabel started out their routine.
Some tricks were more obvious than others, but well, with magic no one had to even wonder that.

Their magic, so dark and twisted and mysterious, used to amuse simple people. What a waste.

But the last trick was their favorite. It also worked as an exercise for them, to practice their magic on someone, and with a perfect excuse, also.

The thing was called divination.
They had to take over someone's thoughts, which yeah, they did on a daily basis, but also control them, and make sure they didn't notice it.

It was more difficult that they originally thought, since completely taking over someone was tiring and needed to be extremely focused.

Dipper mastered it.

Now they just had to choose a victim.

As Mabel scanned the crowd, he kept thinking about the girl.

He could have called her out, yes, but Mabel was the one who used to do this kind of stuff, while he had lost all his interest in the show lately.
He would have been too weird for him to suddenly take over.

Mabel's gaze was on the fourth line.

"How about you?"

Someone stranded up, a little scared, and walked to the stage.

The boy stood up from the chair right next to the girl. Dipper didn't even notice him.

He was short, he could have been, what, 12, 13?

The boy was anxious, you could easily tell by the way he kept moving his gaze from his shoes to the crowd.

The blonde girl smiled and waved at him.

They looked very close.

Mabel grinned, and spoke to the boy.

"Don't be so shy, now, would you? It's okay sweetheart, we just wanna play magic with you"
