Remember when we were little, how we used to think that our parents were invincible
Then we saw our daddies cry
And our mums scream and fall apart
Right in front of our very eyes.
We found out that our mums were hurting
And our dads smoked
And we lay awake at night
Listening to them scream and fight.
We thought that Santa was real
Then our big sisters told us the truth
And we found our parents stash of presents hiding under the bed.
We though that school was fun
Until they taught us algebra and punctuation
And we wondered where all the painting and playing had gone.
We thought that our friends would last forever
Then they all moved away
And we made new friends
Who just weren't the same.
Our daddies used to tuck us into bed at night
Then it stopped
And we lay awake at night
Wondering why our fathers had moved away.
