The eyes of a child

When we were little, we sang on the bus

And were eager for school

we made our first friend

And our mums tucked us in

With a song and a kiss

We learnt how to count

And our abc's too

Because we all wanted to learn,

Something new

We were free and could dance

Wherever we pleased.

When we were older we talked on the bus

And we were bored of school

And we hung out with our friends

And our mums didn't tuck us into bed anymore

we new how to times

And how to write

But didn't want to learn anymore

We were tied to the earth

and We were to shy to dance.

Now we are silent on the bus

Because we are lost in our roaring music

That drowns out the world.

And we could barely drag ourselves out of bed for school

Because there weren't enough hours in the day

And we stayed up late.

We were slowly drifting away

from our friends that used to laugh and play

But we needed them more then ever

So we made new ones

that just weren't the same.

Maths was a different language

And half of it we would never use

And it was hard to become enthused.

Our mum didn't tuck us into bed at night

Because she wen't to bed

While we stayed awake

Weeping so softly that no one would hear.

We felt a weight on our shoulders

Crushing us down to the earth

When all we wanted to do was to fly away.
