They live together
Yet feel so alone
Their voices are so distant
Yet they stand so close
They all turn their backs
As lonely winters pass
Their tears dry out
Until There's nothing left to give
Their hearts wear away
And they have nothing left to give
But they give everything anyway
Until Their souls splinter and fray
One blow from breaking apart
And the rest of us watch the destruction
Gazing from far far away.
We watch as the cold seeps in through the windows
And the frost glides under the door
An endless winter
In a loveless house.
The floor boards creek
The mist, it soundlessly creeps
And the songbirds flee
Toward a place that's free of invisible shackles
That chains it's prisoners with the ghost of stolen dreams
And the soft whispering of broken promises
Made so, so long ago
And the memories trapped within
Wish desperately to be free.
Their love is washed away
With the inevitable break of day
And no one ever dances
upon that rickety floor
Seasons pass
And no one ever dwells
In that empty house.
