I swear I wasn't half-drunk when I wrote this chapter. But I swear that you guys are going to either cringe so hard or pity Tyler (don't come and kill me lol)

Six hours of trying to find the perpetrator, getting chewed out by my teammates for distrusting them, dodging disciplinary teachers left and right as I skipped classes, roping in Liam, Seth, Rebecca and Leo to help me out, and not being able to see Tyler while I did all that...

And it boiled down to what?

"Leo told me you're breaking up with me."

The word break-up was like a red light signal, shutting down all my bodily functions as I did a speed brake to not crash into the hell of no return. My heart almost skipped a beat even before I understood the meaning behind her words. Tyler sat in front of me, her legs crisscrossed Indian style, and her glistening eyes looking at me with utmost sincerity. I processed her words slowly. What did she say? Leo told her I was breaking up with her? The weight lifted off of my chest, and I took a deep breath when it was clear that she was not the one asking to break-up.

I didn't take my eyes off her. Her soul was laid bare open as she waited for me to say something. The gravity of the situation gave me goosebumps. Not because it was serious or anything remote, but because it made me realize how much power I held over Tyler at that moment. She was so fragile, and like a porcelain doll in my hand, I could break her into pieces, and she wouldn't be able to do anything.

Isn't that what others did to her?

The jibe slipped into my consciousness, and I gritted my teeth as a wave of anger hit me. Tyler probably noticed the change in my expression. She closed her eyes, and scooted backward, a wary smile on her face. Her voice was raspy as she mused, "So, it's true."

Was this her real thoughts? Did she think so little of me to accept such a foolish rumor? Or was she so weak to other's attacks that she couldn't defend her own thoughts? You probably answered your own question. This wasn't her speaking. These were the words on everyone's lips when we walked through the hallways, the words they had subconsciously drilled into her mind, and I had done nothing to protect her. A dark chuckle left my mouth as the truth poked me in my ribs, reminding me of my worthlessness, and the anger made it difficult for me maintain a single line of thought. This couldn't go on anymore.

In all seriousness, I threw the used tissue paper in my hand aside and took her hands again. They were soft, warm and moist, resting in my palms like an invaluable piece that was carved with utmost attention and fondness. Tyler gave me a blank look but didn't pull away.

My muscles were tensed, and I made an effort to relax them, to make myself appear more amiable and sincere. I squeezed her hands. "Tyler."

She hummed in response and then started babbling, "You and Leo are mean, you know?" Shoulders slumped, she let her hair curtain her face, and tapped her hand on the ground, searching for something. "I'm going to call Rebecca. She'll kick both of you."
