Author's note: Can you guess what the bookshelves represent? If not, message me.
Some people have bookshelves. I don't know from where - but some are assigned a bookshelf from the day they're born.
Some people get small bookshelves, others get large bookshelves. Most people decorate their bookshelves. It's rare for someone to make their bookshelf bigger. It's even rarer for someone to make theirs smaller.
Every shelf owner has a time in their life when their first book appears. Oddly enough, nobody remembers their first book, but they do remember their shelves filling up.
Once the shelf is full, the owner is free to do whatever they want with their books. Most people lend their books to one other person. They also read their own books but don't want to admit it for some reason. Some people can rent their books to anyone available and others could lend their books to a whole group of people.
Some people want someone to read their books but they can't find anyone no matter what they do. It may be because they have books of unpopular genres, or the books were badly written or the owner is a terrible person. Some people want to wait for the perfect customer to come along - one that would read one of the shelf-owner's books thoroughly and appreciate the book properly.
I have a bookshelf. Someone once told me they wanted to read my books. I said no because I didn't trust them. They became obsessed with my books for a year which confirmed my decision. Another started reading the titles of my books without my permission. Other shelf-owners would tell me that they wish they had my books.
I realized a lot of people wanted to read my books even though I didn't advertize much. The most sensible thing for me to do would have been to sell them, right? Hell no! Let me just tell you: you don't want to know what it's like to have your books sold. Trust me. But, I could rent them. I thought about that, but eventually, people are going to start taking my books for granted and start plagiarizing them, or they could even damage my shelf. And I can't afford a security guard.
There are a lot of people obsessed with reading books. Some places even say that they shelves must be covered with some sort of black fabric (like Mr. Masinde's shelf) because of it. In my opinion, the rule has the opposite effect because if someone ever uncovered their shelf, so many people would take books without permission and damage the shelf.
Unlike a lot of people, I don't care when someone reads one of my books for the first time. As long as they do it with my permission.
