"Abby wake up," I heard someone say as they shook me awake. "We're going out." I sat up and it was just Bobby throwing me my boots and jacket. "Where are we going?" "Miles is sick and we need to go find medicine for him before it gets worse," I stood up and pulled on my socks and boots and threw on my jacket, "who all is going?" I asked hesitantly. "Me, you, George, Sasha, and Jason." "why would Jason go when last time he seen one of those things he tried to kill himself?" Bobby came closer to me and stared me down. "It was his sister Abalene. He lost everyone. You would have done the same thing," he walked out of my room. I felt bad and I knew I had no right to say anything like that anyways. I've even tried to kill myself. I grabbed my backpack and walked out of my room and met everyone in the hall "hey kiddo we never actually got to meet. Im George," he stuck out his hand for me to shake but something about him freaked me out. "Hi," I said sticking my hand out "Im Abalene but you can call me Abby." Jason stepped out of his room to meet up with us and asked if we were ready. "Yeah," Sasha said first "lets go."
We walked down the road for awhile I picked up a few things here and there. Like a small purple teddy bear I seen, and pocket knifes, and pencils or pens whenever I see one. "Where are we even going?" I said aloud, "To the pharmacy down the road, we're almost there." Jason turned around to tell me "hey, can you hang back for a second so we can talk?"  I had to say something to him to let him know I don't hate him or something. "Yeah what's up?," "Im sorry, about your sister, I know why you tried to do what you did. My brother died, he was only 4, and no one else knows, so please don't say anything, I just wanted to let you know Im here if you ever need someone to talk to about anything. I'll be here for you," I smiled and he smiled back "thank you, that means alot." "Anytime."
We were almost to the pharmacy when we heard a low growl and stopped in our tracks. "Nobody move." My Uncle said behind me. I would have called him dad, but he doesn't deserve that title. Jason looked over at me, "Don't worry Jason im gonna be right here." I reached over and grabbed his hand, don't get me wrong im not the best at getting along with guys, but Jason was cute, and I think I liked him? My thoughts were interuppted by a loud scream from in front of me, "Abby get back!"
Before I knew what was going on I was flung to the side and smashed into the side of a car, Bobby opened his knife and Jason ran over to me to check if I was ok.
"You ok Abby!" Bobby yelled back at me as he started toward the monster standing a few feet ahead of us, "Be careful!" I yelled after him, not caring about my pounding headache and aching muscles. I may have called him my uncle for years but deep down inside I had to accept the fact that he is my father.
Bobby swung his knife at the creature a few times but we weren't getting anywhere, George ran up to it and stabbed it in the leg making it drop to the ground and squeal in pain. Then Bobby ran up to it and stabbed it right between the eyes, just like I had done the time before, at the house.
The monster began to shift and change and a man lay in the street. "Poor guy." I said softly, I stood up and limped over to the man and whispered in his ear. "What do you always whisper to them when they go?" Jason asked from behind me. "I tell them that everything is OK, and that they will live on by those who love them" I said looking at the ground. I could feel Jason behind me, swelling up and just nodding.
"Alright kids, let's get to the damn pharmacy and get this kid some medicine." George said laughing. I like that these people can keep a happy mind set, even if the world is practically falling apart.

A few hours later

We made it back to the house with a few bottles of everything they had and of course, I got a few books I checked out while they were grabbing medicines and I also grabbed some snacks. I seen Jason grab a few kitchen utensils and a pack of pencils and some notebooks. George grabbed a few bottles of liquor and Bobby threw a few beers in his bag, Sasha went around testing lipgloss and eyeshadow.
When we entered the house, a blast of delicious smells filled my nose. Flora was in the kitchen making dinner. She was almost like a den mother, she claimed everyone as her children. She is 57 I learned, she was going to own her own restaurant. Me, Bobby, Jason, George, and Sasha all set down our bags at the door and sat down at the table with everyone else. I took my seat between Bailey and Miles, but Bailey asked if me and Anthony could switch seats for the day. I happily agreed and sat in Anthony's seat, between Jason and Amy. Flora walked out of the kitchen with Bobby, Heaven, and Brady trailing behind with various platters of food. Ham, mashed potatoes, gravy, rolls, and corn.
I looked around at all the smiling faces and, even though I didn't know most of who I saw, I couldn't help but feel so happy being around each and every one of them. From here on, these people are my family.
