Joshua's P.O.V (Point Of View)
I woke up at the feeling of a hand shaking me awake, my eyes shot open and my older brother was standing over me, "it's about time" he chuckled "I and dad have been taking turns trying to wake you up for the past 10 minutes" he laughed. I sighed and rubbed my eyes giving him a small nod and yawning softly with a stretch "sorry for the trouble" I mumbled in a sleepy voice as I try to wake myself up for the day. I look over at the alarm clock on the side of my bed, 6:25 it read. School started at 7:45, I had to get ready soon, though, I lived to furthest from school so it took to be a long while to get there and I really didn't feel like rushing today.
I was a part of the Convel wolf pack, one of the biggest wolf packs ever, that meant we owned lots and lots of forest land, 200,000 acres actually which roughly translated to 312 miles of land. We didn't use some of the lands be owned but we made it so that rogues and lone wolfs would be able to use that space for themselves as long as they didn't disturb our pack. I myself was an Omega, which highly sucked especially since the rest of my family are all Beta's.
How did this happen? Well, mostly because of my tardiness and absences to pack meetings which frankly weren't that important to me anyway because I was already and lower pack member because of my age. Another reason would probably be my wandering mind which got me in a lot of trouble sometimes, it happened in school most often. After coming to conclusion I wasn't doing my best to help the pack Alpha declared I'd have a lowered rank to Omega, Alpha Luna wasn't too fond of the decision mostly because pups and "troubled" teens and adults were the Omega's and it was going to ruin the little reputation I had. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not bullied or anything like that it just sucks being the very lowest in the entire pack. Omega's stand the very back during meetings and other social gatherings, are called and served last for all meals, all your idea's no matter how good or full proof are shot down and you are denied permission to speak immediately, and your vote to the community counts as half a regular beta and Alpha. I think that one is possibly the worst, it's like you're not even a full person.
I look back over to the clock for a second before quickly getting up and grabbing clothes from my drawer and heading to the bathroom. The shower I had was quick and cold for the most part, all the hot water had been used up so it wasn't very pleasurable but it definitely woke me up. Afterward, I headed towards the kitchen and grabbed an apple taking a bite out of it and watching my brother Jason as he cooked breakfast. The first meal on the day started a 7:25, people usually got to school around 7:00 and hung out, the first bell would ring for breakfast and everyone would head to breakfast and eat. You sat with friends and the cafeteria staff called ranks up one at a time, Alpha family followed but Beta's than Omega's. They served by grade two though so it was Alpha Seniors, Juniors, etc. then Beta Seniors, Juniors, etc. then Omega Seniors, Juniors, etc. It was confusing at first but after a couple years of doing it, it's easy to remember. In my Junior High, they had grades broken up so that all the grades weren't mixed, in High School all grades are mixed.
I usually ate with everyone else, the walk/run to school usually would burn most the calories from eating that morning so it was better to just grab an apple on the way there and eat with everyone else. Plus, trying my best to get on the Alpha's good side would make it so that hopefully my ranking would go up. I had another couple minutes before I had to go so I could just relax for a bit, I liked watching my brother cook, it was one of his talents.
"So, did you sleep okay? Are you ready for tonight?" Jason asked me and I raised my eyebrow slightly
"Tonight?" I mumble "what's so big about tonight?" I say fondling around with my hoodie string
He paused for a second
"... My mate is being announced tonight, not only that but the Alpha's son, Kane's mate is being announced tonight!" he said and my head shot up and I looked to my brother
"O-oh I forgot it's a month before mating season!" I stutter out and go over to him hugging him tightly and smiling "you're getting a mate!" I say happily and he looked back to me.
Jason sighs and rolls his eyes before ruffling my hair "I know you didn't mean to forget" he said softly and smiles "and yes I am, and we both know she'll be absolutely gorgeous, my wolf is practically chasing his own tail in excitement" he joked and I laughed softly.
"What does it feel like?" I asked and he smiled
"It feels like today, nothing will go wrong, somehow she's close, I can feel she's close, I know she is, it's just a matter of time until we meet." I've never seen Jason smile so widely before. I chuckle at his expression and look over to the clock my eyes widening.
"Crap, crap, crap" I mumbling unwrapping my arms from around Jason and grabbing an apple from our fruit bin before hurrying to the door and clumsily putting my shoes on slinging my bag around my shoulder.
"I-I'll see you tonight!" I say before hurrying out the door and off to school.
Jason was lucky he didn't have to leave early like I did. Jason was 18 and was in the High School, but that was the thing, he was also a Senior so as long as he showed up to school before 7:45 he was okay, everyone else, on the other hand, had to be there for breakfast. I hurried my way on the path from my house to the school. I could already feel today was going to be a long and painful day, I didn't enjoy school, not in the least. There were only 1 or 2 things they taught there that was actually worth something, we didn't need these complicated and hard thoughts out way to complete a simple math problem, it was ridiculous. The Leader board and P.A.M.S classes were all we really needed at this point in life. Leader Board was a class in which you looked at the ways the Alpha ran the pack and taught you how you could help the pack in your own ways, I had to admit, it was very interesting to see what the Alpha had to go through in order to run our pack because it was so huge. P.A.M.S stands for Physical And Mental Strengths, in this class we think out and make plans so in case our pack in attacked we know what to do and how to kill our opponents if needed. It wasn't my favorite class mostly before I wasn't very good Physically, but when it can to mental strategies I was mostly your "go to" guy.
With all the thinking I was doing I had barely even noticed I was already to the school. I walked up the steps to the building and walked inside and making my way to advisory first. The hallways were always extremely packed so it was hard to get through without pushing or shoving or being the one getting pushed or shoved, being the small Omega I am I was the one most of the time getting pushed and pulled out of the way so the others could make their way through and walk by me. I carefully made my way around people and to my advisory setting my bag down at my desk and pulling out my chair taking a seat and getting out my book.
I loved to read, it was absolutely one of my most favorites things to do in the entire world and possibly nothing could ever bring me out of it once I was in a good part of a book. At the moment I was reading A Search For Reasoning And Meaning it was a poetry book by Sena Dockland, I found it in the pack's local library, I had grown very attached to it. I loved the way each line fit perfectly together, my favorite part about the book that it wasn't a poetry book filled with different poems, it was just one big long poem in book form, and it told a story about a boy who got lost in his own world of lies and he had dug himself a hole so deep he couldn't get out of it. It was sad but beautiful, selfish, but caring. With each lie the boy in the story told the more people would start to doubt him and the more he was losing his true self.
Suddenly, the breakfast bell rang signaling out that breakfast would be served soon. I got out putting my bookmark/placeholder back where it belonged and slipping the book into my bag. I carried my bag out to my locker and hung it inside before closing it and making my way along with everyone else to the cafeteria.
