Rebekah was all but hopeful for what was coming.

Her brother, Klaus had called her, saying he needed her to protect his newborn baby girl.

Rebekah had always wanted a child, a chance of life as a human, and she knew this was that chance.

But she also knew that one day, Klaus would come to take the baby away when it was safe for her to return.

The child was born in New Orleans, cursed to be living in the presence of witches, vampires, wolves, and hybrids who wanted to kill her.

You see, she was the miracle baby. Born to a Klaus, who was a hybrid, and Hayley, who was a werewolf.

The baby was the most powerful person in existence, being a hybrid with witch powers. Klaus and Rebekah's mother was a witch, so when the baby was created, she was created with witches ancestry.

Everyone wanted the baby. Some for power, some for leverage, some for life, but Klaus, Hayley, and Rebekah's other brother, Elijah, would not let that happen.

They wanted the little girl to grow up worry free, happy, and loved- something that would not happen if she stayed in the power hungry, immortal city of New Orleans.

This is where Rebekah came in. Klaus knew that the one person who could protect the child more than them, was Rebekah.

Klaus stood on the edge of town, on a dirty forgotten road waiting, thinking.

Rebekah's car drove up slowly, lights bright, a clear sign to show that this was the last moment Klaus would ever see his daughter again, at least until it was safe for her return.

Rebekah climbed out of her car and slowly approached Klaus and his small, fragile, baby girl.

"Hello sister." Klaus said with a small smile, one of not happiness, but acceptance, something Klaus rarely showed.

"She looks like her mother," Rebekah smiled, "Maybe their is a god after all."

"Or she has a hint of the devil in her eyes," Klaus said, looking up, "That's all me."

Rebekah smiled. Her feelings were bittersweet. On one hand, her brother was devastated, regardless of his cool demeanor, but on the other hand, Rebekah finally had her opportunity at a real life. She was going to raise the child as her own, finally having the family she always wanted.

"You need a witch you can trust to cast a cloaking spell." Klaus said looking down at the baby and then up to Rebekah again.

"I will get one." Rebekah smiled.

"No one can ever find out-" Klaus began but was cut off.

"I know what to do Nik." Rebekah interrupted, showing complete understanding in her blue eyes.

They both looked at the child in Klaus's arms. She was beautiful. Her barely there, brown hair was laying on her little head, and she was asleep.

The little girl would wake up, not in her mother or fathers arms, but in her aunts. She would never know Rebekah as her aunt though, she would grow up believing she was an only child to a woman name Rebekah Mikaelson.

"Perhaps we will get a white fence, I think that will be lovely." Rebekah smiled, but the terrible feeling in her stomach came out to show on her face in a frown. Rebekah hated the fact that Hayley, Elijah, and Klaus would never see the little girl.

Klaus held the child out in front of him, looking at her, no, admiring her.

"This city would have seen you dead, but I will have it your home. And every soul who wishes you harm will be struck down, just as sure as my blood runs in your veins. You will return to me." Klaus said, planting a small kiss on his daughters forehead, and handing the baby to Rebekah.

"In spite of our differences Rebekah, there is no one I would trust more with my daughters life," Klaus said, embracing Rebekah in a hug, plating a kiss on her cheek, "Be happy sister."

"She will be happy Nik, I promise." Rebekah smiled as a tear rolled down her cheek, "What is her name?"

A moment of silence passed between them. With all of the chaos of people trying to hurt the baby girl, Hayley and Klaus had not chosen a name for the child whom was born just mere ours ago.

"Hope...her name is Hope." Klaus said as a tear slowly but surely fell from his eye.

Rebekah walked to her car, stopping at the door to take one more glance back at Klaus.

He was at his car door, silently watching Rebekah and his daughter. Tears were rolling down his cheeks, but neither him, nor Rebekah dared to say a word.

And with that, Rebekah got in her car and drove away, never glancing back, for Klaus has instructed her hours before, on the phone, that she was to take Hope far away and raise the child as her own daughter.
