Elizabeth POV
I woke the next morning with a pounding my head. dry salt and tear streaks coated my cheeks. I rubbed my face and walked into the bathroom. after making sure I was alone, I locked the door. I washed my face, scrubbing the grief from underneath my eyes. I stared at my self in the mirror, I looked grim and grimy. a shower is what I need, and clean clothes too. I need a trip back to the house, dreadful as it may be.
if I leave now I should make it back before anyone wakes. Karen leaves early anyways so the house should be vacant when I arrive. it should be enough time for me to gather some clothes and get out. I tied up my hair, brushing the moisture off my hands on my pants. I looked myself over one last time to make sure I hadn't missed anything. I unlocked the bathroom door, scurrying back to the couch.
after collecting whatever belongings I had, I went out to the restaurant half of the building.
"Were are you going?", a quiet voice said behind me. the initial surprise made me jump, and being the spastic I am, I practically had a heart attack. dropping the small bag to the floor with a clatter. the sound echoing in the painfully quiet room.
I turned to see Eddie, he casually leaned against the doorway to the stairs. his eyebrow arched, I imagine his curiosity peaking.
I sighed and picked up my bag, averting my eyes to the floor. and still refusing to meet his eyes when I do rise. " why do you need to know so bad?"
Eddie chuckled and shook his head, walking a few steps closer" asking about something once is not 'needing to know so bad'", he said using his fingers for air quotes.
"then why ask? what exactly is the point in asking where I'm going if there isn't some kind of serious underlying cause"?, I stole a glance at Eddie. he stood there a few feet away, hands in the pockets of his grey sweat pants. white tank top cut down the sides, his eyes set on me. as soon as I took the one single glance at him, my eyes met him in that one moment. again, I averted my gaze, cheeks heating for a reason I can't seem to comprehend. I just hope that it's dark enough that Eddie couldn't see the blush on my face. if it was visible to him, he didn't say so. no, he just smirked and said," pure curiosity. so, where are you going?"
"why do you want to know?", I asked, getting annoyed rather quickly.
" well, you know, just curious".
I sighed again, this time in defeat. I'd always been 'taught', if you could even call it that. anyways, I'd been taught that your not supposed to argue, or fight back. you just accept what happens and do what your told. and if you have a problem with it, you just suck it up, swallow your pride, and shut up. " I need clothes, I'm going to get some".
his eyebrow arched again, " and these clothes are where exactly?" Eddie crossed his arms disapprovingly.
"why are you so nosy? besides I'm 23 years old, I can do what I want. who are you my mother?" involuntarily, I winced when I said that. I broke a couple of rules just now. I argued, I spoke bad of my mother, I implied that I know better than him, and my mother in a way.
and knowing that Eddie saw that wince, I
shouldered my bag uncomfortably, and took a silent step backwards. "so where are you going?" he asked
"why are you being so nosey?"
"why are you being so difficult?"
"where do you think my clothes are?"
Eddie sighed and shook his head, "you can't go back there, why don't you just use some of Emilys clothes?"
"because Emily's clothes don't fit. Karen leaves early. I could go and get some with more than enough time to get back before she even gets to work", I said, pretty confident of my speed.
