Little stars were dancing around in front of your eyes as you tried to gasp for air. Although you knew that it wasn't safe in some parts of New Orleans as soon as it got dark, you had wanted to get home as fast as possible and had taken a shortcut through a quarter that was infamous for witches to live and practice magic there. And those witches weren't the nice ones. They were the ones that wanted the Mikaelson family dead.
You hadn't thought about what could happen if you appeared there since you were Elijah Mikaelson's girlfriend. They knew that they could hurt you, you were just a human. A weak human that wasn't able to defend herself against witches.
And of course, two of those powerful witches had seen you. And then it started: they knew who you were and they finally found a possibility, to damage the Mikaelson family with hurting the one Elijah loved most.
Now you were lying there, in some dark street all alone. You could hear your own heartbeat in your ears, the same as the blood that was rushing through your body. It was like every single muscle and every single bone was hurting you. A groan escaped your mouth as you managed to turn to one side.
The witches didn't kill you, that was the good thing. But they had hurt you just to show the family that they knew who you were and that they would be able to even kill you. With shaking hands, you searched for the phone in your pocket. There was no way you would be able to walk home all by yourself. You needed help.
"Y/N? Where are you? I expected you to be here almost an hour ago." You could hear Elijah's voice at the other end. "Elijah..." A sob came out of your mouth and you pressed a hand against your lips.
"Y/N, what happened? Where are you?" He sounded alarmed immediately and you could hear him getting up from where he had been sitting. "I'm...in the quarter near the port."
"What the hell are you doing in the one quarter that is full of witches that want my family dead?!", Elijah exclaimed. But you had no nerves to explain to him. "Can you...can you just come here and pick me up? Please." Breathing was getting a bit hard, your ribs were burning like fire. Maybe one of them was broken. You weren't sure.
"Stay where you are. I'm there in five minutes", Elijah said and then he was gone. You leaned against a house wall and closed your eyes. When you opened them again, you saw Elijah running towards you.
As soon as he reached you, you sank into his arms. "Oh my god, Y/N what happened?", he said, obviously shocked by all the bruises on your face and arms.
While Elijah carried you home, you quietly explained how you ended up near the port and what had happened. You could see Elijah's jaw move as if he was trying to hold back his anger.
"Those damn witches", he just mumbled. But you didn't say anything to that. You still felt your whole body hurt and just wanted to sleep. Maybe the pain would disappear then.
Carefully Elijah brought you up to his bedroom in the huge Mikaelson house. You groaned in pain when he put you on the bed as careful as he could. "You need some of my blood", he calmly said but you shook your head. He raised an eyebrow at you. "Elijah, you know I don't take vampire blood as long as I'm not close to death", you made your point of view clear to him. He sighed and sat down on the edge of the bed.
"Don't be silly, darling. It would heal all your bruises immediately", he tried to change your mind. "No. They'll heal anyway, don't worry." You gave him a slight smile but you were sure you failed in that since you were still in a lot of pain. All your muscles were sore and the bruises hurt like hell when someone touched them.
"What can I do for you then?", Elijah asked and his voice wasn't more than a whisper. You wriggled a bit on the mattress as you thought about something that could make you feel better a bit at least.
Elijah gently stroked your cheek and pushed some hair out of your face. "Your lips are bleeding", he said. You stuck out your tongue and immediately tasted that metallic taste of blood. You grimaced.
"I...I guess a hot bath could do me some good", you finally said after some minutes of silence between you and Elijah. He stood up again. "I'll run you one." A gentle kiss on your intact forehead, and he was gone too fast for your eyes to see.
Five minutes later you slowly got up and walked into the bathroom. Elijah wasn't there anymore, but the bath tube was filled with hot water with bubbles and the whole room smelled like roses. You smiled as you started to get undressed.
"My god, what have they done to you?" You turned around as you heard Elijah's voice behind you. He was standing in the doorframe and stared at you in shock. "What do you mean?" You didn't understand. But then Elijah slowly came closer, carefully grabbed your shoulders and turne you around so you could look into the mirror.
Your eyes widened when you saw what he meant. Literally your whole body was covered with bruises that were already turning blue and green. There were some scratches on your arms and you assumed that they'd burn as soon as they touched the hot water. Your left eye was swollen a bit as well as your lips. You sighed. You looked terrible.
"I'm gonna kill them all", Elijah growled. "That wouldn't change anything", you said and shook your head. "There would appear other witches. Witches that are as evil as the current ones. There's always enough war and fights here, Elijah. Just let it be." Your eyes met through the mirror and Elijah put his hands on your bare shoulders. "I won't let anyone hurt the ones I love, especially not you!", Elijah exclaimed and clenched his fists. He was angry. You could understand him somehow but at the moment, you weren't in the mood to start an argument with a vampire.
So you finally let yourself sink into the hot bath. With a sigh of relief, you closed your eyes. Although the scratches on your arms were burning, it wasn't as bad as the pain you had felt only some minutes ago.
You could feel the pain ease quick. Elijah stood there next to the bathroom mirror for a moment and looked at you. Then he turned around and was about to leave, when you reached out an arm in his direction. "Join me."
Elijah hesitated just a short moment, then he started to get undressed so quick, you held your breath watching him. It always amazed you anew when he used his vampire superpowers.
You slipped a bit forward in the bathtube, so Elijah could sit right behind you. He gently wrapped his strong arms around your wounded body and you leaned against his chest. "Are you feeling better?", he asked. You nodded. "I am."
While you were lying there in the warm water with closed eyes, you could feel Elijah's lips kissing your hair and gently stroking your stomach.
"I love you, Y/N. And I'd do anything to protect you", Elijah whispered into your ear, "I'm sorry I couldn't protect you tonight." The sound of his voice told you how hard it was for him to see you hurt and that he would have enjoyed to kill the witches who had done this to you. But you couldn't allow that. You didn't want Elijah to kill someone just because of you.
You placed your hands over his, turned your head and pressed a kiss on Elijah's neck. "I love you too, Elijah. Just hold me, that's all I need right now. Dead witches wouldn't help me anyway." Your lesions would heal and as long as Elijah was by your side, everything was okay for you so far.
