I Don't Leave You

With your heart beating fast against your chest, you knocked on the wooden door in front of you. You had been standing here for the last ten minutes and only now had found the courage to knock. You wanted to talk to Elijah. You just had to. Although you have had a huge argument last night, you didn't want to give up that easy.

When the door opened, you hoped it would be Elijah behind it. But it was Freya, his sister. "Y/N! I didn't expect you to come back so fast." She gave you an encouraging smile as you shrugged. "Come in. Elijah must be somewhere upstairs", she then said and stepped aside to let you in.

Slowly you walked upstairs. You had been in this house so many times, you knew it almost as well as your own apartment. After some minutes, you found Elijah in the library the house had. He was sitting in a chair, reading a book and holding a glass of whiskey in his hand. When you stepped in, he looked up. For a second, you both just stared at each other. Then, he put away the book and his drink and got up.

"Y/N...why are you here?", he asked quietly. You swallowed and tried to not think about last night and the fight you and Elijah have had. "I'm here because I love you", you said and stepped closer. Elijah didn't make a move. But you could see that he was clenching his fists as if he had to hide his true feelings right now.

"I told you to not come back", Elijah eventually said, "I can't be with you, Y/N." You shook your head. You weren't accepting this. You wanted to fight for what you loved. And you loved that man in front of you.

"Come on, Y/N! Don't be so stupid!", Elijah exclaimed and threw his hands in the air. He rarely lost his composure, but when he did, it wasn't funny at all.

"Don't call me stupid!", you shot back and put your hands on your hips. For a moment, you were wondering why you had even come here. Of course, Elijah would try to get you out of the house again. He was just way too protective and that was why he thought that you couldn't be together.

"Elijah, I don't want to hear anything about that we can't be together thing, seriously! You've told me so many times now, but I'm still here. I won't go away!", you told him as you finally stood right in front of him. You could smell his aftershave and had to fight the urge to just wrap your arms around him and take a deep breath.

"But you're not safe with me!", he shouted and smashed the glass of whiskey against the wall next to you. You winced and stared at him without saying a word. You didn't know what to say. You had never seen him like this and you weren't sure if it had been a good idea to come here.

"This world isn't safe anyway, Elijah", you quietly said and waited for him to respond. But he didn't. He remained silent and you both just looked at each other. Maybe it would be better to just leave, you thought and swallowed hard. You needed to hold back the tears that had started to fill your eyes. There was no way you would cry in front of Elijah.

So, you turned around and walked away. You didn't have the strength to fight, not today. And Elijah had clearly shown you that he didn't want you here anymore. He strongly believed that he wasn't good for you and that he brought you in danger. You didn't know what to do to change his mind. You didn't know how you could show him that you loved him dearly. It seemed as if he didn't want to realize what you felt for him.

When you had almost reached the door, a hand grabbed your arm and forced you to turn around. Elijah was standing there, holding on your arm and looking at you in a way he had never looked at you until now.

"I love you, Y/N. I love you more than anything else. And that scares me. My world is dangerous, especially for humans. I...I couldn't forgive myself if something happens to you. That's why I'd wish for you to just leave me. But...letting you go seems to be the hardest thing I would have ever done", Elijah said. His voice was quiet and slow. It gave you goosebumps.

You fully turned to Elijah now and placed your free hand on his chest. "I could never leave you, Elijah. Don't you understand that you're my world? I don't care if it's dangerous to be with you, as long as I can be with you. I'm taking that risk."

Elijah pulled you closer and then, within a second, he pressed his lips against yours. You closed your eyes and sank into his strong arms. You wouldn't leave his side, no matter what. And finally, Elijah seemed to realize that your love for him was stronger than the danger of the world he was living in.
