Erwin's P.O.V.
My plan had worked. The abnormal titan with female characteristics stood below us from our position in the trees. Thick, metallic wires protruded through its flesh; holding the creature in place.
Even when it was contained, defiance burned fiercely in it's eyes, and it had covered its nape with both arms as the shots were fired. This was a first; in all my years within the Survey Corps, even as a young cadet, I had never experienced such abnormal behavior.
It was full of purpose and intellect, which 'normal' titans lack in the long run. In retrospect, these factors made this particular titan all the more dangerous.
Casting those thoughts aside, I examined my soldiers. As the Commander of the Survey Corps, it is also my duty to certify their safety and well-being.
Cadet Eren Yeager was being reassured and praised by the rest of the Special Operations Squad. Petra, Gunther and Eld were smiling and patting the cadet on the back. Whereas Oluo was nursing a nasty wound in his mouth; but he always bit his tongue. Something big must have happened during their chase which made him seem more trustworthy.
Captain Levi Ackerman currently stood atop the abnormal titan's head, taunting it most likely. He has a thing for standing on the heads of some titans before decapitating them. However, he wasn't going to exterminate this one- we needed it alive.
Squad Leader Hanji Zoe bounced about in excitement, nearly falling off the branch she was standing on. She was speaking animatedly with her (unfortunate) assistant, Moblit Berner. Something about surgery, I believe.
As long as she doesn't kill this titan during her experiments, that is fine by me. We can't afford to go on another capture mission. The cost of both many lives and currency-that-we-don't-have is too much. The image of this branch in the military was deteriorating more with each expedition as well. It didn't matter to most of the citizens whether it was failure or a success.
More reason as to why success is a must: Cadet Eren Yeager and his ability to shift into a titan has benefited humanity once in the Battle of Trost. The outcomes of this expedition will prove that he is worthy to serve in the Survey Corps, and that he is a necessity to humanity in this war against the titans.
Just then, the abnormal titan screamed. The banshee-like howl made everyone cover their ears for a good minute before it stopped.
"RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!"
Afterwards, I was immediately approached by Squad Leader Mike. He was one of the oldest veterans in Survey Corps, and had a strong sense of smell. He has a strange habit of smelling people upon first encounters, but his nose is a useful titan detector.
Seeing that he looked extremely panicked was never a good sign. "Sir! Titans are closing in fast!"
I thought I ordered the rest of the scouts to prevent them from entering this forest. "From which direction?"
"EVERYWHERE!"
He was right.
Your P.O.V.
I heard Armin's scream loud and clear even though I was running away. He may be the most physically weakest of the characters, but that boy sure has a pair of lungs. I recall how loud he was when he saw Santa Titan eat Eren, and when he was giving a testimony to the soldiers that wanted to cannonball-blast him and his best friends dead.
I felt really bad that I ditched him up in that tree, but I had some characters to save. If I remembered correctly, the Special Operations Squad was located in the rear of the formation during this particular expedition. But since they had to detour into this forest, the rest of the Survey Corp minus the middle section, were to keep the titans out.
I wasn't sure exactly which direction I was supposed to go, but I had to move or else I'd never reach the squad in time. So I went deeper and deeper towards what I thought was the center of the woods.
I've never done so much running in my life before! This was probably not the ideal time or place to think about things like that when there was a dire situation up ahead, but I couldn't help it.
The pounding of my hooves, heartbeat in my ears, the adrenaline pumping through my veins, the wind in my hair, and the blur of everything as I rush past. This was an exciting experience!
On top of all that, I'm STILL not tired. Horses get tired eventually, but for some reason, I feel like I've barely finished a warm-up lap. When I was human, I couldn't do that without hyperventilating, and getting cramps everywhere. This is so cool!
Suddenly, a shrill cry echoed throughout the forest. I had to skid to a stop in attempt to relieve my eardrums (the sounds when I ran made it worse).
"RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!"
Uh-oh...
Moments later, the ground shook from beneath me, getting more frantic as an armada of titans stampeded into the woods. They came out of freaking nowhere! I had to zigzag between their legs to avoid getting kicked or smashed.
The only good thing about this was that they were running in the same direction that I was headed. Meaning, I was going the right way towards the Special Operations Squad.
Now I really have to hurry! Dashing forward, I ran as fast as I could, passing several titans as I went (and they were REALLY fast).
Eventually, I bypassed them all, and saw a figure in the distance.
The Female titan.
