The sun decided to be a pain this morning and invade my room with the assistance of my mother of course. She was the one who was nice enough to let it in. It crept up the singular sheet sprawled over me with little consideration. It poked me right in the eye just minutes before my alarm was actually set to ring. Thanks mom; thanks sun. I pushed the sheet off of me, thanking God for the day and asking Him to see about this mid August weather. It was still pretty hot out, which wouldn't be so bad if our pool didn't have a tear in the lining, forcing it to be closed until it got fixed. Spectacular, truly. 8:54 sat on my phone's screen as I looked over to the mountain of books that lay neatly on my night stand. They had just arrived yesterday and today I was off from work, which meant I could actually crack 'em open. My mom had already left for the morning which meant that I would pretty much have the house to myself. Grant, I assumed, was somewhere with Harley and Jay was at the gym with Nate. For the next few hours, I could get some work done, and I intended to.
After brushing my teeth and taking a shower, I tried to make myself some breakfast as my phone buzzed. It was Megan.
"Morning beautiful," I answered. "How are you?"
"I'm okay, just driving to work and I thought I would say hi. I missed you."
"Aww, baby. I miss you too."
"So how about we get dinner tonight, I could really go for some seafood."
"You know what? I could too."
"I get out of work at 5, I could be over by like 5:30ish and we go from there."
"Sounds like a plan."
"Excellent....I love you."
"I love you too. Have a great day at work. Bye."
The call ended and I resumed my breakfast making. As luck would have it the first batch flew to the ground as I tried to flip them over. Wonderful. I was far more cautious with the second, successfully setting the plate down with a glass of orange juice. I retrieved one of the books from my room, ready to study at a moment's notice. I essentially inhaled my eggs and chased it with the juice. The two left a salty sweet aftertaste in my mouth that I didn't particularly mind. I looked up to see that it was already five to ten. The way I figured, I could stay in to work out for an hour or so, then by eleven I could get my studies underway. Maybe I could order some lunch around 1 or 2 and take a break, you know, to catch up on my sports news. Finally I would resume my studying until about 5:15ish so I could get dressed and hide the books. I didn't want Megan to know that I was studying for law school. It was going be my surprise to her. In the name of sticking to the script I changed my clothes and found my dumbbells, ready to get the day started.
As I came half way through an arm curl the doorbell rang. That's weird; I wasn't really expecting anyone. I completed the curl and looked out of the window only to see a singular minivan parked on my street. Men in suits went from house to house with pamphlets in their hands. Oh no; door to door salesmen. I truly don't want to be rude, but I really don't have time to waste with them either. It was already half past ten and I needed to hit the books soon. The bell rang again. Well maybe I could just take the pamphlet and ask them to leave. This time someone knocked.
"I'm coming!" I yelled, hoping they wouldn't hear and just walk away.
I wiped the sweat off my forehead and went to the door, opening it half way and stepping through. One guy who looked to be in his thirties stood on my porch; I guessed that the other guy went to one of my neighbors.
"Good morning, sir," he started. "How are you doing this beautiful morning?"
"I'm fine," I answered. "How may I help you?"
