"Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand. Welcome to HOMECOMING!!!!" The principal left the stage as the music started. A slow song to start the evening, though it would pick up later.

Karyl smiled at Louis. He was handsome in his white tuxedo with silver lining. "I think you should wear that more often."

His eyebrows rose. "Oh, no. Don't even think about it. This comes off after tonight and it stays off."

She laughed. "Okay, Tomlinson. Let's go." She took his hand and led him to the dance floor.

As they reached the center of the floor, she turned to face him. Her breath caught in her throat as he smiled at her, the lights hitting him just right.

His blue eyes practically glowed in the dancing lights, and they never strayed from her. He'd pulled his hair back from his face, revealing his smile to her in all its glory. The tuxedo showed off muscles years of sports had honed to perfection.

His broad shoulders blocked some of the lights from blinding her as he stepped closer, taking her hands in his. Something must have shown on her face, because he leaned in and whispered, "It's okay. Just here and now, it's you and me. No one else is around."

Taking one of her hands, he brought it to his shoulder, and put his hand on her waist. With the other, he held her other hand. Smiling down at her, he nudged her into swaying slowly to the music.

Karyl stared into his eyes, the rest of the world falling away. Just like he said, they were alone. No one else around, the world disappeared. Nothing else existed.

It was a perfect moment in time she never wanted to end.

They danced through another song, this one a little faster and with a more playful beat. A few songs later, a slower, though still upbeat song, began.

Suddenly, he leaned his head down to her ear and sang along with the lyrics.

"You're beautiful, you're beautiful. You're beautiful, it's true. I saw your face in a crowded place.... And I don't know what to do. 'Cause I'll never be with you."

Tears gathered in Karyl's eyes as she burried her face in Louis's neck. While she knew he'd never say it out loud, everything he did told her he loved her. From the way he lit up whenever she entered the room to the way he'd wanted revenge over what Brooklyn did to the way he now held her.

He had 'love' written all over him, it was in his eyes whenever he looked at her and in his hands while he held her. In his voice as he sang the lyrics to her telling her she was a beautiful angel he would never be with.

She was in love with him, too. She wanted to stay in his arms forever, never step away from him for even a moment. Nothing on Earth or beyond meant more to her than him, and if she had to give up everything to be with him, so be it.

And still, she had to break both their hearts. In only a matter of days, she was going to tear her own heart from her chest, rip it to shreds.

Worse, she would be doing the same thing to Louis. When the time came, she would be forced to walk away from him. Stomp his heart to pieces and leave it bleeding out on the ground.

"Karyl?" Louis gently lifted nudged her head from his shoulder. He frowned. "What's wrong, baby?" His fingers brushed the tears from her cheeks.

She bit her lip and wiped the tears away. Giving him a smile tinged with sadness, she met his gaze. "Nothing to worry about right now. It's a problem for tomorrow. For tonight, let's let it go, okay?"

After a minute of scrutiny, he gave in. "Alright. Tomorrow it is." He smiled and leaned to whisper in her ear while conspiratorily looking around them. "How are Joe and Kevin?" he asked in a mock-serious tone.
