Chapter 1

I'm Hades Coleman, a 14 year old foster kid from London. I never met my dad, he left us before I developed memories. My mum however, was a fairly famous historian though, who specialised in ancient greek history. I travelled with her right up to my 8th birthday. She'd lost her job earlier that week and I was convinced she had found another, but to my dismay, this was not the case. When I got home from school I found her lifeless body in the kitchen next to a near empty bottle of pills.

I was young and it didn't even cross my mind to check what the pills were, my mind was consumed by the trauma of my mothers apparent death. She was all I'd had left and she seemingly took her own life. Later police told me that she had been slowly doing this to herself over several months and that there wouldn't have been anything they could've done to save her, even if they had found her earlier. Her approximated time of death was 12:47am, I had been laughing and eating pizza with my friends at school when the colour drained from her rosy cheeks and the smile drained from her dazzling blue eyes. She'd always had such lovely smiling eyes.

After that I was put into care and was adopted by a 'lovely couple who unfortunately couldn't have kids of their own'. I'm sure they regret it now. The Davenports. They were American and always tried too hard. No one would ever replace my mum, not ever! The one thing I was greatful for is that they let me keep my cat, Sparta.

So that's me. But I'm running late...and it's my first day! I don't usually have breakfast anyway so I brush my raven black bangs into place, pull on my Iron Maiden t-shirt and black jeans, slip on my converses, put my hoodie and leather jacket on before grabbing my bag, feeding Sparta and slamming the door behind me as I went. 'New school, new me', hmmm...how bad could it be?
