Dear Jessie,
I'm sending you a late Christmas present, one which I hope you will appreciate now that you're going to be a mother soon. I was cleaning up after your visit and putting all the decorations away in the attic when I literally stumbled across a box of your old things. Most were moldering and ruined, but there were a few treasures in there as well.
As you can see, a few yearbooks and some photos are also in the package, but it was the diary I thought you'd really be interested to see. I flipped through it before realizing what it was. Don't worry, sweetheart. I didn't read the whole thing, but I did see a few entries, and I can't believe how much you've changed.
If I didn't tell you last week, let me just say it now. Your dad and I are both proud of you, honey. You've overcome a lot and grown into an amazing woman. I think this diary may record at least part of that journey.
Well, I'm probably just being overly sentimental, but I'm your mother, so I'm allowed to be. We love you, honey. Hugs for Mark too and your soon-to-be bundle of joy. We'll see you in March, unless the baby comes early.
Always,
Mom
