"Oh come on Wynter, please" Amaris whines for what seems like the 4th time in the past 5 minutes.
We've only been just folding our laundry and Aaron's for a few minutes now, and she's already starting to question me about wether Jess made it to the group or not.
"I can tell you a different story. Like a hunting story, if i get into it now, we'll have to cancel dinner with Maggie tonight. And I miss my friend." I tell her honestly and she pouts.
"Okay, a different story then. How about how you met Glenn and Maggie." She bats her eyelashes and I flick the sheet while keeping eye contact.
"Fine, we have an hour before they're supposed to come here." I tell her as we finish folding the sheet.
She stares at me for a few seconds before nodding "Well start." She says and i roll my eyes
"Okay, so this story starts during the hottest day of summer." I begin
-
"We really need to find somewhere to stay." Maddie pants holding her large stomach.
"We will Maddie, I promise," Tom says and lowers his head to look in her eyes "hey look at me." His hand caresses her face and she locks eyes with him. "We can do it. We will do it. I'm not gonna let anything happen to any of us. All of us. We're in this together." He says to the group. Maddie smiles and nods grabbing onto his shoulder as they are pulled up the hill.
"We find somewhere to bunker down for the night." Tom decides, looking towards Jess. Shelby holds onto Tom's hand as he helps both girls get up onto the highway.
"Okay, Yeah. Sounds good." Jess cuts finally and Tom nods.
They're walking along side the road, just outside of the small town they've just left. It's extremely hot outside. The sun is too bright, the roads are hot to the touch. No one's slept comfortably in weeks, possibly months. It's times like this that everyone really misses life before. Of air conditioning and running water.
Wynter walks along side El and Jess.
It's been a little under 8 months since they've left the hospital, a long year of slowly making their way east.
Maddie has a giant belly now, Tom is more stressed than ever. Everyone is always on edge due to the fact that shelby could pop any minute and there's not one person that would know what to do.
"Wait, do you hear that?" El stops walking. Everyone is on high alert as they realize- yes.
A car.
"Becca, get Maddie in the treeline. Don't come out until you hear me whistle." Tom orders handing her a knife. He kisses Shelby on the forehead as the group watches the car drive closer and closer, about half a kilometer away now.
It's a big beige truck, bigger than a basic truck. Military, probably.
The truck slows a little bit down the road, then it's quiet. The drive side door opens and a tall man with red hair jumps out.
"Howdy," the man says loud enough for everyone to hear. They're a good distance apart, all 13 of them, plus shelby and becca who are standing in the treeline
"Hello," Jess straightens her shoulders as the other doors of the truck open and a shorter girl hops out.
"What kind of group is this?" The ginger haired man asks, slinging his rifle over his shoulder.
"We're part of a group, we're looking for more of our people. We lived in a hospital a days trip West, walking that is. We're just trying to make it by." Jess tells him.
