Chapter 4
She held her breath in her throat as she watched Brad’s next movements with zealous eyes. Kinakabahan siya. Kahit pa kampante siya na hindi nito mabubuksan ang pendulum, nandoon pa rin ang agam-agam na paano na lang kung mabubuksan nga nito iyon? She risked not just her job, but all her life by doing so.
Anyways, she knew that the pendulum was made up of a rare material. Hindi iyon nababasag o nasusunog. Hindi rin iyon nahihiwa nang kahit na anong matalim na bagay. That was how strong and solid the pendulum was made. Halatang napaka-importante ng laman niyon at siniguradong mapoprotektahan nang maayos.
Lumapit si Brad sa isang sulok ng silid at may pinindot. Bumukas ang isang parte ng pader at lumabas ang itim na bagay na parang vault. He opened it. Pagkatapos ay ipinasok nito ang pendulum sa loob. He looked at her.
“Watch lady, and fulfill our agreement. We had a deal.” Isinara nito ang vault ngunit transparent ang harapan niyon at kitang-kita pa rin niya ang pendulum na laman niyon.
“Ano iyan?” She asked in utter curiosity. Ngayon ay nagsisimula na talaga siyang kabahan.
“A gizmo,” tipid na sagot nito. “It’s powered by laser anyway, which as you know, a tool used to cut and shape Diamonds, the hardest mineral on Earth.”
Her eyes widened in awe. Hindi siya makapaniwala sa narinig. Who was this man? Why on Earth did he get the chance to possess such advance technology? He was surprising her every freaking minute.
She shook her head in disbelief. Paano na ang deal nila? Mukhang mapapasubo yata siya.
He pressed a black button, and the vault made a hush sound. And her eyes gaped in bewilderment as she saw streaks of red light appeared inside of it. She saw how the red light sliced the pendulum into two.
This can’t be! Pero nagawa nitong buksan ang pendulum! Now she was a dead meat. She swallowed hard.
Ngayong nakabukas na ang pendulum ay matiim na tiningnan niya iyon. She was trying to look for something valuable. Pero nagkasalubong ang mga kilay niya nang makitang nakalukot na papel ang laman niyon.
Pinatay ni Brad ang modernong aparatu at binuksan ang vault. Ito man ay nagkasalubong ang mga kilay sa pagtataka. Isang lukot na papel lamang ang laman ng pendulum. Kinuha nito ang papel at binuklat. Mas lalong naragdagan ang guhit sa noo nito sa nakita.
“Ano ang nakasulat sa papel?” Gustong-gusto na niyang tumayo at agawin ang papel mula sa lalaki. Pero nakatali siya. Damn!
Nilingon siya nito. He took several strides towards her, and stopped in front of her face. Pagkatapos ay ipinakita sa kanya ang nakaladlad na papel.
Puro mga drawings ang nakikita niya. Old Spanish houses, an obelisk, a mausoleum, a cemetery and a mountain. Nakaguhit ang mga iyon sa isang lumang-lumang papel at ang ginamit na ink ay halatang sinauna rin. May nabasa siyang mga sulat. Isang Haiku! At nakasulat iyon sa lengguwaheng Japanese!
