The first school day was pretty average. Nothing new happened. It was just a day in the cliché teenage life. Everything the same and nothing ever really changes. Sometimes I wish life could be a little more challenging or interesting. Like seriously Life, throw obstacles at me.
I'm sitting on the grass next to Lynn. I had left my lunch at home so we're sharing hers. She's talking to me but I'm drifting off as usual. It just move away from where I am. I feel like I might as well just get up and leave. But that'd probably be considered more rude. At home, mom yells at me when I do it but I can hardly hear her anyway. It's all a mixture of slurs and syllables.
"Honestly, Cat. Couldn't you stay with me for five minutes?"
"Sorry Lynn, you know how it is." I attempt smiling at her.
"Anyway, remember the new guy?" She asks me without responding to my smile which I find quite rude.
"What new guy?"
Of course I remember him but I feel the need to down play this. Lynn goes all out if she ever thinks I'm a bit eager about a guy."Blue shirt, toned, sexily strolled into our English class?"
"Oh yeah. Him"
"Well apparently he's really rich. I heard someone say he's stay in Hover Estate!"
That was kind of a big deal. Hover Estate was the place around here. People's houses had the ability of looking like hospitals. Even Lynn's parents couldn't afford it. I actually wasn't surprised that mister new guy stayed there, I mean with all the stories I had heard about him. And yes, I may have been trying to be extra attentive. I always knew how to play it down though.
I guess I may have taken too much of an interest in the guy but that's only to be expected. He was new and mysterious. But soon he'd open up, making friends (maybe a girlfriend), drink a few beers and then he'd be the same old guy that I'm used to.
"What else did you hear about him?" I try to ask in the most neutral tone.
"He's an orphan and his parents left him a butt load of cash. Apparently he even has a butler!"
The tone in her voice is so excited, it's hard to believe that she's this excited about the fact that someone is an orphan. She's about to bombard me with information when the bell goes off. We quickly pack up and head to class. Our last few classes for the day aren't the same, so I know that this is probably the last time I'll see her until after school. We say our temporary goodbyes as we head our separate ways and then I'm on my own again.
I walk through the noice and people's shouts. I would've continued doing that until I feel a hand pull on my wrist. I fight the urge to punch the person right there and then. I turned round to find green eyes looking straight at me.
"Thought you could avoid me all day, huh?"
"Honestly Connor, I don't have time for your games." I reply in a voice that emphasizes my distaste for this conversation going on any longer.
"Let me at least walk you to class. Speaking of, aren't you tired of sitting alone during science?"
I've always sat alone in science. It's the most normal thing. I like my space very much and this is just as a result of that.
"As a matter of fact, I love sitting alone. "
"Yeah right!"
"Yes I do!"
Luckily we arrive at class before this becomes a five-year-old dispute. As I walk in my eyes survey the room. My table is at the back. Beneath a warm light that is swarming in through the window. It feels like home. But as I look more carefully I realise that someone is sitting there, green eyes starting straight at me.
